Rear Assets Trainer Kit

If you’re brand-new to butt stuff and don’t know where to start, or you’ve gotten a taste and want to expand your horizons, the Rear Assets Trainer Kit from NS Novelties is here for you in a shiny, sparkly way.

You get three solid metal anal plugs in rose gold with matching crystals embedded in the bases for a cheeky little extra. The plugs come in graduated sizes so that you can work your way up as far as you choose.

Key Takeaways
2.5 out of 5 stars

As professional sex toy testers, we’ve evaluated products ranging from promotional freebies to crafted, curated exclusives. We paid less than $40 for all three plugs in the Rear Assets Trainer Kit, and we did not have the highest expectations. We are happy to say that these were definitely much better than we had feared.

The plugs are all made of metal (except for the jewels in the bases), which automatically elevated them. They are a classic butt plug shape, and classics become classics because they work. We aren’t new to anal play, but the largest plug had enough girth and heft to be satisfying and even a little challenging. The smaller ones had their uses too, especially when combined with other toys and/or partnered sex.

That said, you should be aware that the tips are quite pointy. The metal is smooth and you should be using plenty of lube and going slow anyhow, but this is a design flaw, in our opinion. Also, the plating doesn’t have the same glow as it does when the color is cast into the metal itself. Similarly, the crystals in the base of the plugs are clearly costume jewelry. This doesn’t really detract from the kit’s purpose, but you should know what you’ll be getting.

Who Should Try It? The name of the game here is experimentation. You get three plugs in different sizes so you can figure out if you like anal play at all, and if you do, how much size matters. If you’re curious, you should try the Rear Assets Trainer Kit. It offers everything you need, it’s body-friendly, and it’s even nice to look at!

Who Can Skip It? If you are a person who likes to fly first-class, this is standard economy (which still gets you where you want to go). Also, these plugs are metal and they have sharply tapered ends. Folks who prefer softness in their sex toys will be better off tossing this kit.

You Can Buy It on the Peep Show Toys website for $35.

What Is the Rear Assets Trainer Kit?

The Rear Assets Trainer Kit is a set of three rose-gold metal anal plugs. The plugs come in small, medium, and large, and they have pink crystals embedded in their bases so that you can be sparkly. The idea behind this kit is that beginners can start with the smallest plug and work their way up if they choose. It’s also fun to have an assortment of sizes for different kinds of play sessions.

Rear Assets Trainer Kit

While this is very much an entry-level kit, it does what it does quite well. The plugs are solid and balanced, and the range of sizes should suit both newbies and more experienced spelunkers. Metal is a good choice for anal toys because it cleans up nicely and is compatible with all types of lube. It is also well suited for temperature play.

First Impressions and Features

Unboxing

The packaging was nicer than we expected, given what we paid. The box is sturdy matte cardboard with a product photo and graphics that are, quite honestly, better done than we’ve seen on products at twice the price or more. The product photo is large and clear. It looks great, but it is not discreet. Anyone who happens to catch a glimpse of this box will know exactly what’s inside, if that matters to you.

The packaging

Inside the box, the plugs are secure in a molded plastic tray. There are no instructions, and there’s no storage pouch or other little goodies (which is not surprising). The plugs are solid, smooth, shiny, and seamless. They have some weight to them. The crystals embedded in the bases catch the light, but look more like party favors than fine jewelry.

How Do I Use the Rear Assets Trainer Kit?

The Rear Assets Trainer Kit is designed to introduce new users to anal plug play, and/or to let more experienced folks experiment with different sizes.

  1. As with any kind of anal play, the first step is making sure that both your body and your toys are clean. Since these plugs are made of metal, you can wash them with mild soap and warm water, or use a specialized sex toy cleaner.
  2. Next, make sure that you are comfortable and relaxed (this counts whether you are playing solo or partnered). Start with the smallest plug unless you have done this before and know that you are good with a larger one.
  3. Apply plenty of good-quality lube to your body and the toy. Metal plugs are compatible with all types of lube; we recommend silicone, hybrid, or oil-based lubes for anal play since they are thicker and do not dry out as quickly.
  4. Warm the metal in your hands. Hold the tip of the plug near the entrance to your anus. These plugs have sharply pointed tips, and you will want to let your body get used to the feel. Then hold the plug by the neck and slowly ease it inside. The metal is smooth so it should go in easily. If you feel resistance, back up and start over.
  5. Once it’s in, you can just let it sit for a while if your intent is to train your body to be comfortable with anal penetration. Of course, this is a sex toy so you can also have whatever kind of sex you want! You can try the next size up when you feel like you’re ready for more fullness and pressure (and it’s okay if you decide that the small one is more than enough).

My Personal Experience

Design

Style choices were made here! The plugs in the Rear Assets Trainer Kit are rose-gold chrome plating over aluminum with pink jewels embedded in the bases. The rose gold is truly well done; it’s a personal favorite when it is and a personal pet peeve that it often isn’t. The crystals aren’t quite as nice, but for butt jewelry, they are just fine.

Closeup of the jeweled base

The plugs follow the classic butt plug lines: tapered tip, bulbous body, slim neck, wide round base. The wide base is an important safety point — all anal toys should have a wide or flared base so they don’t get sucked in and “lost” (which can happen, the sphincter muscles are very strong and contractions can be involuntary). The tips here are noticeably pointy. They aren’t sharp enough to be dangerous, but you’ll probably want to take care when easing them inside yourself.

Material

The plugs are made of aluminum finished with chrome plating. The aluminum is lightweight but firm, and the finish is shiny and seamless. Like most metal sex toys, the plugs can be washed with soap and water. They are non-porous, so they won’t retain stains or smells. Aluminum is responsive to temperature changes, so you can warm or chill the plugs for new sensations.

Stimulation

Butt plugs generally aren’t super stimulating themselves; they contribute pressure and fullness to other kinds of stimulation! The three plugs in the kit let you choose just how much pressure and fullness you are up for (the largest plug has a girth of just over 5”, which would be in the 81st percentile if it was a penis).

You can use the plugs for temperature play. Warm a plug in a bowl of hot water, but be sure to test it on your wrist or thigh before trying to insert it, or chill it in a bowl of cold water or in the refrigerator. Never put it in the freezer, because no one wants a frostbitten butthole.

Build Quality

The Rear Assets Trainer Kit’s build quality is solid, especially considering the price point. The plugs are solid and balanced. They are also scaled well; the shape is consistent across all three sizes (this is more challenging than you might think!). The finish is smooth and seamless.

The crystals embedded in the bases are not quite as impressive. They’re sparkly and they catch light well, but they kind of look like what you’d find on a tiara from a party store. However, we’ll take excellent construction and a mediocre garnish over the other way around.

Ease of Use

These are analog sex toys, so you don’t have to install batteries or apps to make them work. They are also made of metal, so cleanup is easy. Most healthy adults should be able to start out with the smallest plug. We don’t necessarily love how pointed the tip is, but the finish is smooth and the plugs slide in easily.

Versatility

The Rear Assets Trainer Kit definitely offers you options. You can use these toys for partnered play or solo exploration, and you can choose just how full you want to be. You can also use them straight out of the box, or warm or chill them to indulge in temperature play.

Warranty and Support

NS Novelties offers a one-year warranty against “malfunction or failure under normal use.” (Honestly, these plugs are solid aluminum. We don’t see how they could fail or malfunction.) Additionally, if you purchased the Rear Assets Trainer Kit from an authorized retailer, you likely have additional protection and support through that retailer.

Minor Issues I Found During Testing

Real talk here: the Rear Assets Trainer Kit is meant for folks who want to experiment with butt plugs. As such, it’s beginner-friendly and budget-friendly, and this means that it is not the highest of high-end products.

The rose gold color is chrome plating over the aluminum body. The plating is seamless and well done, but it doesn’t have the same glow as it does when the color is cast into the metal itself. Similarly, the crystals in the base of the plugs are clearly costume jewelry. This doesn’t really detract from the kit’s purpose, but you should know what you’ll be getting.

As far as the plugs themselves, we’ve mentioned that the points are pointy, but it’s worth mentioning again. The metal is smooth and you should be using plenty of lube and going slow anyhow, but this is a design flaw, in our opinion.

And while this is intended to be a beginner/training kit, the smallest plug is still larger than many others on the market. As an example, Lovehoney’s Classic Silicone Extra Petite Beginner’s Butt Plug is just 2.75” in girth at its widest point. The Rear Assets Trainer Kit starts out with a plug that measures 3.33” around at the widest point. That’s well over a half-inch difference, which doesn’t sound like much but your butt may disagree.

Alternatives to the Rear Assets Trainer Kit

If you liked the Rear Assets Trainer Kit enough to read to the end of this article but not quite enough to push the buy button yet, some reasonable alternatives to the set of jeweled plugs are:

Temptasia Bling Plug Set

With the Temptasia Bling Plug Set, you also get a set of three plugs of graduated sizes. This is a good way to “train” yourself to take larger toys, and it’s also just nice to be able to pick and choose as the mood suits you. These are softer than the Rear Assets Trainer Kit in every way: they are silicone instead of metal, and the tips are more rounded. You also get a sweet little sparkly crystal between your cheeks, too!

Blush Temptasia Bling Plug

Pipedream Icicles No. 48

If it’s the pretty pink that appeals to you, the Pipedream Icicles No. 48 brings the pink in a different way. This is sculpted, tinted glass with a daisy-shaped base. It’s pretty enough to display! Because it’s solid glass, it is firmer and heavier than the plugs in the trainer kit. Even though it’s comparable in size to one of the smaller Rear Assets Trainer Kit plugs, you’ll feel fuller because of the resistance. There’s something special about glass toys, and this one is extra-special.

I Am Sold! Where Can I Buy It?

When you’ve decided on the Rear Assets Trainer Kit, you can buy it at Peepshow Toys for under $40, which is a great price for three metal plugs.
