It’s fun to mix it up sometimes, but the truth is that around the world and across generations, most sex happens in beds. Sex and beds are so closely linked that “going to bed” together is a euphemism for sex and being “good in bed” is being good at sex.
With that in mind, people who want to be “good in bed” (and that’s why we’re all here, right?) should make sure that they have a good bed. This means a bed that’s big enough for at least two adults to move freely, a solid frame that can hold weight and doesn’t squeak, a mattress that is supportive but still allows for a little bit of bounce, plenty of pillows, and sheets that are soft but not slippery.
If you’re ready to level up, an adjustable bed frame can up your sex game in a big way. You’ll be able to dial in the perfect support for any position you want, no more messing with pillows to prop yourselves up! Read on to learn how to make the most of your adjustable bed.
Cowgirl Position
Lots of folks love the cowgirl position, and there’s lots to love about it. The penetrating partner (who, let’s be honest, usually does most of the “work”) gets to lie back and enjoy a great ride and a great view. The receiving partner gets to control the angle, depth, and pace.
This is all good stuff, but when you have an adjustable bed, you can elevate the head of the bed to give the penetrating partner better access to the receiving partner’s goodies, and/or the foot of the bed to angle the penetrating partner’s hips a little differently.
What We’re Doing
- The penetrating partner lies on their back on the bed and sets the incline of the head of the bed to a comfortable position; ideally, this is one where they will be able to see and reach the receiving partner.
- If desired, the penetrating partner can also lift the lower half of the bed to support their legs and angle their hips.
- The receiving partner kneels, straddles, or squats over the penetrating partner’s erection. The penetrating partner braces their penis with their hand and the receiving partner lowers themself on it.
Reverse Cowgirl Position
The reverse cowgirl position offers many of the same advantages as the classic cowgirl: the penetrating partner can enjoy being ridden instead of doing the riding, and the receiving partner is in control of their own pleasure. In this position (depending on size and angle), the head of the penis may be able to hit the front vaginal wall, which is where the G-spot and A-spot are located.
One of the challenges of reverse cowgirl is a lack of support for the receiving partner, but with an adjustable bed, the penetrating partner can raise their legs and the receiving partner can brace against them.
What We’re Doing
- The penetrating partner lies on their back on the mattress. They adjust the head of the bed to a comfortable angle and set the incline to lift their hips so that they can bend their knees.
- The receiving partner kneels, straddles, or squats over the penetrating partner’s erection, facing their feet. The penetrating partner braces their penis with their hand and the receiving partner lowers themself on it.
Lotus Position
The lotus position allows for very deep penetration, full-body contact, and face-to-face intimacy. Plus, both partners have their hands free to stimulate or caress each other. What’s not to love?
Well, in a standard bed, the penetrating partner may not have adequate support for their back, and if they don’t have very strong core muscles, they will feel the strain of supporting both partners’ weight. But with an adjustable bed, you can set the incline to bear that weight.
What We’re Doing
- Raise the head of the bed to a 110- to 120-degree angle, or whatever is most comfortable for the penetrating partner. The penetrating partner sits on the bed with legs crossed or stretched out in front.
- The receiving partner straddles the penetrating partner’s lap, facing each other and with genitals aligned.
- The penetrating partner uses their hand to insert their erect penis.
Spider Position
The spider sex position isn’t creepy! It gets its name because all eight limbs (two arms and two legs for each partner) are in play. Partners sit facing each other and leaning back on their hands for support. This position allows for deep penetration and plenty of kissing.
An adjustable bed makes this position easier by supporting both partners’ backs, which relieves strain and allows them to move more freely. It also lets the penetrating partner move their hips and adjust the angle of penetration more easily.
What We’re Doing
- Raise both the head and the foot of the bed to create a “U” shape. It should look like there is a wall on both ends of the bed.
- Partners lie/sit/recline on the mattress facing each other, with knees bent slightly and legs intertwined.
- Move closer to each other until your genitals are aligned and the penetrating partner can insert his penis.
Face Sitting
Also known as “queening” (because there is no better throne!) is cunnilingus where the receiving partner straddles the giving partner’s face. The giving partner has complete access to the receiving partner’s body, and the receiving partner has control over the pace and pressure.
An adjustable bed makes this more comfortable for the giving partner, since they can adjust the bed to support their head and neck. This also allows them to support more of the receiving partner’s weight so this does not have to feel like leg day at the gym for them.
What We’re Doing
- The giving partner lies on their back on the bed and lifts the top half slightly to support their neck.
- The receiving partner kneels or straddles the giving partner’s face and lowers themself slowly over the giving partner’s mouth.
