What Is a DIY Sybian Sex Machine?
Sybian produces an iconic saddle sex machine that is designed for people with vulvas to ride naked while it stimulates the clitoris and/or vagina, depending on which attachments you choose. They are legendary, and their price tag reflects that. There are other companies that produce sex machines in all price ranges (well, we’re probably still looking at three numbers after the dollar sign, but that’s one less than the Sybian), but “Sybian” has become synonymous with sex machines, much like “Kleenex” and “Band-Aid.”
A DIY Sybian is a homemade sex machine. We’ve seen a lot of schematics, and they often include materials such as wood, PVC pipe, and 3-D printed parts. Most designs feature a motor that’s attached to a platform or seat and powers some sort of vibrator. At a minimum, this requires skills in carpentry and electronics.
Besides the original Sybian, our testers liked the Motorbunny Buck and the Liberator BonBon. Buck is a self-powered sex machine, and the BonBon is a mount that positions your favorite dildo for riding. We suggest that you pay close attention to these when you are considering trying to build your own Sybian-style sex machine at home.
Is Making a Homemade Sybian Safe?
It is not easy to safely produce any kind of machinery in a home workshop, and that goes double (or triple) for a sex machine that’s designed for internal use in a very vulnerable position. You will need to be very careful to choose a motor that is powerful enough to do the job but not powerful enough to do damage, and that is a very fine line to walk. You’ll also need to figure out how to regulate the intensity and speed control.
The platform and frame need to be sturdy enough to support a grown adult (who may not be sitting perfectly still if you do get it to work like it should!). You’ll need very strong springs, and you’ll probably want comfortable padding that does not compress under body weight. The surface should be waterproof and easy to clean. If this seems like a lot to manage, it is indeed and that’s why we recommend letting the professionals manage it for you.

1. Modified Chair
This is a relatively easy project, and it’s also not likely to go south in a bad way because you’re relying on furniture and motors that were (presumably) produced by reliable manufacturers.
Materials
- Comfortable and sturdy chair that fits your body well, preferably wooden
- Wand vibrator, preferably with remote control
- 2”x4” piece of wood
- 12” bolt
- Ring stand clamps (quantity needed depends on the size of the wand vibrator, but two should work for most wands)
- Screws and screwdriver
- Drill
- Waterproof seat cushion (optional)
Step-by-Step Guide
- Drill a small hole and screw the bolt through the 2”x4”.
- Drill a hole in the seat of the chair. The hole should be large enough to accommodate the neck of the wand vibrator.
- Screw (super glue is also an option) the 2”x4” to the bottom of the seat behind the drill hole, with the shaft of the bolt pointing towards the floor.
- If you are using a seat cushion, cut a hole in it to match the hole in the seat and secure it to the seat of the chair.
- Attach one end of each ring clamp to the shaft of the bolt.
- Drop the wand vibrator through the hole in the seat and secure it underneath the seat with the ring clamps.
2. Sex Chaise
Any chaise or loveseat with a flat surface can be transformed into a sex machine when you place a firm cushion on the seat, secure a vibrator on the cushion, and then straddle it. Here’s how to build your own sex chaise! Note that the creator of this chair and their partner are very tall. You may want to make your own chaise slimmer and/or shorter, but that’s one of the advantages of DIYing.
Materials
- Vibrator
- 4’x 8’ sheet of 1/2” plywood
- Scrap 1”x2” plywood
- 2”x4” lumber
- Hardboard
- High-quality foam of varying densities as desired
- Dacron batting
- Muslin
- Duck cloth
- Zippers or hook-and-loop closures
- An old piece of hose
- Jigsaw
- Router
- Nails and screws
- Eye bolts
- Scissors and knife
- Needle and thread
Step-by-Step Guide
- Cut your sheet of 1/2” plywood to 78”, which is the finished length of the chair.
- Cut scrap 1”x2” to 32”, 12” and 18” to use as guides for the contours of the chair. Position them on the plywood and screw them in with short screws (easy to remove later).
- Use an old piece of hose to form the outline of the chair and nail it down to the plywood. This will be one side of the chaise.
- Account for 4” of foam before making any cuts, and then use a jigsaw to cut out the first side. Use a router with a flush-cut bit to make an exact copy.
- Build a 2”x4” frame for the bottom and screw the sides to it.
- Run 1”x2” pieces of pine and scrap plywood between the sides to act as supports for the top.
- Cut a piece of hardboard to the correct width, force it to follow the contours of the top, and tack it into the supports.
- Cut 1” layers of foam to size, glue the layers of foam together, and glue them to the chair.
- Glue Dacron batting to the foam and whip-stitch the Dacron together where the top and sides meet.
- Create an inner muslin cover and an outer duck cloth cover for the chaise. The muslin cover can be stapled to the frame, but the outer cover should be removable (zipper or hook-and-loop tape) so it can be removed and washed.
- Screw eye bolts into the side to serve as attachment points for restraints.
3. BonBon Knockoff #1
We linked the Liberator BonBon above because it’s a great way to get the feel of a sex machine without the investment (or need for storage space). This project captures the spirit of the BonBon, and if you choose a pillow with a strap attachment, you can secure it wherever you want to ride! It’s also super easy, so you don’t need much in the way of tools or even skills.
Materials
- Lumbar support pillow, preferably with a back strap.
- Thigh harness to hold a strap-on
- Vibrator or dildo with a base that fits in the harness
Step-by-Step Guide
- Fasten the thigh harness securely around the lumbar support pillow.
- Insert the vibrator or dildo in the harness.
4. BonBon Knockoff #2
We really like the BonBon, if you hadn’t guessed. This is another inexpensive, easy way to replicate the magic with a wand vibrator like the Magic Wand Rechargeable. We strongly suggest that you put a grippy towel down under and around the roller because rollers tend to roll, even when you don’t want them to. You could also purchase a roller that’s a little taller than you would want it and slice an inch or so off the long side so it sits flat.

- Short, thick foam roller

Step-by-Step Guide
- Slice a hole in the foam roller. If the dildo or vibrator is thick at the bottom, you may need to widen the hole.

Not Safe at All Ideas
There’s a lot that can go wrong when you are DIYing your own sex toys, gear, and furniture, especially when you are dealing with motors and electronics. Here are some of our most serious concerns:
- Powerful Motors or Tools: More power does not equal more orgasms! More power can abrade or otherwise injure your clitoris and labia. We understand the desire to DIY, but we strongly recommend that even if you make your own pillows or furniture, you stick with vibrators or other sex toys that were produced and tested by trusted manufacturers. Do not mess with motors or power tools from the hardware store.
- Unstable Devices: The point of a Sybian or similar sex machine is to ride it, which means that it needs to safely support your weight even when you are grinding or bearing down. Something that feels fine sitting on your workbench may not be as stable when you’re straddling it, and that’s not when you want to make that discovery. If you do go the DIY route, make sure that you test it thoroughly before you get naked and climb on.
Why Is It Better to Get a Commercial Product?
The most important reason to purchase your sex toys and gear, especially pieces that are used internally or need to support your weight, is that reputable manufacturers and retailers have invested significantly in building products that won’t get you hurt and get them sued.
