What Is the Lovehoney Hot Shot?

Although it doesn’t resemble a mouth, its soft silicone texture and heating ability can warm up foreplay in an instant. It has a vibrating motor at the tip of the device, adding an extra element of excitement. The stimulations are warm, slippery, vibe-y fun.
First Impressions and Features
Unboxing
The unboxing was straightforward. The Lovehoney Hot Shot comes in a lightweight cardboard box that also contains a user manual and a USB recharging cable (you can see all the items in the image below). You’ll need to pick up a carrying case and some water-based lubricant before use.

How Do I Use the Lovehoney Hot Shot?
The first step after the unboxing is to charge it. Charge the battery by inserting the connector into the hole at the vibrator’s tip. It flashes while it’s charging and will remain steadily lit once the charging has finished (it should look like the image below). The website estimated that it would take ninety minutes to charge the Lovehoney Hot Shot, and then it would last up to an hour on a full charge. That’s not an amazing battery use-to-charge-time ratio, but it’s likely due to the heating element. When I tested the battery, it took nearly two hours to charge and then lasted three hours and four minutes on the first setting, well over the estimated time.
After the Hot Shot is fully charged, wash it with sex toy cleaner and a cloth. Since the sleeve is made from silicone, use water-based lube with this gadget to protect its body-safe exterior. Put lube on the inside of the vibrator and all along your penis. Keep the lube nearby, as you may need to reapply throughout use.
As you can see in the image below, the four-button interface is simple to operate. The warming element takes a few minutes to reach its peak temperature, so consider turning it on a little in advance of when you plan to use it. To turn it on, press the power button and hold for three seconds. If you press the power button briefly, it will cycle through the six patterns. The plus and minus buttons increase or decrease the intensity, and there are three intensity levels for you to try, for a total of eighteen settings.
The button that resembles a thermometer triggers the heating element. Press and hold for three seconds; you’ll know it’s on when the red light flashes. Once it’s on, it will turn on and off automatically during play to maintain the temperature without overheating. If you’d like to use the travel lock, press and hold the plus and minus buttons for three seconds to activate and deactivate; the light will flash twice to indicate you have activated or deactivated it.
When you’re finished, wash it again and store it somewhere temperature-controlled, preferably in a bag separate from your other silicone devices.

My Personal Experience
I’m going to be completely transparent: I don’t have a penis. But my partner does, along with a soft spot for penis toys and lots of opinions. He enthusiastically agreed to test this vibrator, but I also did my own testing. As a clit vibrator, it didn’t work exceptionally well, which is fair, as that’s not what this is meant for. Yet, I always try the penis vibes anyway to see if they would work as universal vibrators. The Hot Shot is powerful enough, but it would only work for someone who enjoys broad stimulation since it goes around your clit rather than on it.
My partner also rigorously tested the Lovehoney Hot Shot Warming Male Masturbator and found that it was easy to use while soft, making it perfect for people with erectile dysfunction. He loved using it for foreplay. It may also work well for trans men who want a more gender affirming gadget before surgery. He didn’t like that you must use water-based lube with it, since there is room for the air to get in, and it dries out extra quickly and can become pinchy. His advice is to use extra lube and plan to reapply often throughout play. He also felt like he needed to be extra turned on for it to bring him to orgasm, because the stimulations are localized to the tip of the penis. But when he was highly aroused, it worked like a charm.
Packaging
As you can see in the image below, the packaging is signature Lovehoney, and it arrives discreetly on your doorstep. While the box isn’t meant to last, what’s inside is. It looks like a drugstore box, which is appropriate, since this penis vibe is a wellness aid. Although it is not the most giftable, it is perfect for the price point.
Design
The Hot Shot’s design is ergonomic. It looks like a coffee mug that’s super comfy to hold, thanks to the ridges on the back. My partner wished that one of the sides had been flexible rather than stiff, so that he could grip the sex toy around his penis for a tighter fit. He also wished it were a little longer, so that the sensations reached further down the shaft. However, the button placement is perfect and easy to reach during use.
As you can see in the image below, the orifice doesn’t have a human shape or mouth-like aesthetic, which my partner appreciated. Some people like the realistically designed masturbators, but my partner isn’t one of them. The design is perfect for people who prefer modernity over realism.
Material
This penis vibrator is made from silicone. It’s soft and feels a little skin-like, though not quite like a mouth. It’s also not waterproof, which may be due to the warming element. The texture is varied, too, with the inside being soft and silky and the outside having a textured feel. The textured silicone coating on the outside was a thoughtful touch because it makes it less likely to get too slippery to hold if you get lube on your hand. Overall, the material texture and durability were pleasantly comfortable.
Stimulations
The stimulations were intense, but only on my partner’s penis head. They were enough to get him off, which is saying something since penis vibration doesn’t always do the trick for him. The vibrations are rumbly, but they all stem from the motor at the very tip of the toy. At lower levels, the sensations are all over, but the higher intensity vibrations target the tip and frenulum with precision. The stimulations, though pleasurable, did not mimic oral sex in my partner’s opinion.
Sound Level
We knew this gadget would be loud before testing the decibels. Using it under the comforter, the Lovehoney Hot Shot’s noise dwarfed the noise of my vibrator. When we tested it, the decibels ranged from 48 to 66.
Build Quality and Dimensions
Though the Lovehoney Hot Shot surrounds the head of the penis, it does not reach much farther than that. The dimensions will feel realistic compared to a mouth, but it may be disappointing for someone who is used to the size of a penis sleeve. It’s unexpectedly lightweight, easy to hold, and will feel tight on girthier penises (You can see how it compares size-wise to some of my other masturbators in the image below).
One minor flaw is that the charging cable is unique, making this one of many cords you’ll need to keep track of if you own numerous sex toys. You will need to purchase a makeup bag to store the vibrator and its cord together.
Ease of Use
Overall, this male masturbator is easy to use. You don’t need to learn an app because it doesn’t have one, and the interface is straightforward with only four buttons (image below). But if we’re being finicky (which I usually am), the buttons could be easier. For instance, to activate the warming feature, you hold down the button and then press it again to turn it on, which seems like it could have been streamlined. It’s also not waterproof, so you’ll have to clean it carefully and remember never to submerge this masturbator.
Versatility
The Hot Shot isn’t the most versatile: it’s merely warming vibrations at the top of your penis. It’s also not waterproof, just splash-proof, so you can only use it in dry locations. However, the versatility is in line with the price.

Minor Issues I Found During Testing
This male masturbator was surprisingly effective, and my partner only had a few complaints. For starters, a little more length and the ability to include a flexible exterior that you can squeeze would have significantly increased the pleasure factor. A waterproof exterior would have made it more versatile and easier to clean, but would likely have increased the price.
