ROMP Switch XStorming into the spotlight on budget sex toys is the ROMP Switch X, a clitoral suction stimulator with a price even more shocking than its power. This under-$50 sex toy is a collaboration between Lovehoney and ROMP, so you know the quality will be good.

But as with any budget vibe, the price begs some questions, like will it stand the test of time? Does it have enough features to make a name for itself as more than an introductory device? Take my hand and join me in finding the answers to these questions in this ROMP Switch X review.

Key Takeaways
4.1 out of 5 stars

If you are wondering what clitoral suction is like, the ROMP Switch X is the perfect introductory toy. The stimulations are light, so they won’t overwhelm you or overstimulate you, as thuddier models can. It won’t break the budget either, so if it turns out that you don’t like clitoral suction, your wallet will still be on speaking terms with you. On the other hand, if you’ve tried other suction toys and liked them before, this one is not the best bet. The lack of features may detract from your overall experience, and it’s a bit fiddly to have to remember to keep batteries on hand.

Who Should Try It? First-time sex toy buyers and anyone who isn’t sure if they will like clitoral suction should figuratively run, not walk, to the Lovehoney website to purchase this. Anyone whose budget is the main consideration when buying a sex toy will also appreciate this product.

Who Can Skip It? If you already know you like clitoral suction toys, you will probably want to select something with more features.

You Can Buy It on the Lovehoney website for $34.99. Use discount code AFF-MSTG10 for 10% off.

What Is the ROMP Switch X?

The ROMP Switch X is a clitoral suction stimulator that will make your wallet and your clit happy. It uses Lovehoney’s Pleasure Air Technology to simulate suction and has six intensity levels. Don’t be fooled: clitoral suction is not technically suction; rather, it is a series of air pulses that can get you off and even make some people squirt. The device is missing some features, but you may forget all about features at this price. For instance, it’s splashproof rather than waterproof, and it runs on included batteries rather than coming with a charging cord. But if you’re new to clitoral suction and want to find out if you love it without breaking the bank, you may have found your match.

First Impressions and Features

Unboxing

Unboxing the ROMP Switch X was straightforward. It comes with batteries and a quick start guide (image below), but you’ll need to spring for water-based lube and a storage container. You’ll also need to pick up some batteries to keep on hand for use after the first set dies. As a bonus, there were inclusive, cute stickers that came with this sucker that will shortly be emblazoned on my laptop. What a fun unboxing!

Features

The ROMP Switch X has pared-down features, including:

  • Pleasure Air Technology, which provides touch-free stimulation
  • Six intensity levels
  • Body-safe, splash-proof silicone

Specifications

ROMP Switch X specifications at a glance:

  • Material: Body-safe silicone
  • Size: 6.4” circumference, 5.07” long
  • Color: Orange or purple
  • Mechanism: Pleasure Air Technology for clitoral suction

How Do I Use the ROMP Switch X?

After unboxing the ROMP Switch X, you should stop by the store to grab some water-based lubricant (and, for extra credit, a storage bag). You may also want to grab some extra batteries for when the included ones eventually die. There’s no charging this sucker since it uses batteries, so you can start masturbating immediately. But before you do, remove the suction nozzle and clean it with warm water and antibacterial soap. Wipe the rest of the device clean with a damp cloth, reassemble it, and you are ready to go.

Next, open the battery compartment by sliding the access door down (it should look like the image below). This process was a little tricky the first time, so keep trying if it sticks. Put the batteries in, and it’s masturbation o’clock.

Put water-based lube on your clit and the Switch X’s nozzle. Don’t use too much since this sucker has a short handle, which can quickly become slippery if you go crazy with the lube. And remember never to mix silicone lube with a silicone toy—water-based is the way to go to preserve your clit sucker for the long haul. Water-based lube preserves the body-safe exterior, which is one of the most luxurious components of this sex toy.

Next, it’s time to get turned on and turn the device on at the same time. Read your favorite erotica or consume other adult media to ensure you’re at peak arousal, especially if this is your first time using a clitoral suction device. The more turned on you are before beginning, the less chance you have of feeling overstimulated right off the bat.

Closeup of the control buttons

This clitoral suction stimulator is equipped with a two-button interface (a plus button and a minus button, which you can see above), and using it is simple. Pressing the + button for two seconds turns the ROMP Switch X on. Pressing the + button briefly will bring you through the six levels of intensity. Holding the – button for two seconds will turn off the Switch X.

The website estimates that the ROMP Switch X will last 300 minutes, but that will depend on the batteries you use and how high you crank the settings. When it feels like the batteries are dying, swap them out for some fresh ones. Store this clitoral suction stimulator in the box it came in or a makeup bag, away from other silicone devices and protected from the elements.

My Personal Experience

This was my first encounter with a ROMP device, and I was impressed right off the bat. From the sex-positive marketing to the body-safe exterior to the seriously budget-friendly price tag ($35? Romp Switch X, are you flirting with me?), it’s clear that inclusivity is important to this brand. Ensuring that everyone who wants access to clitoral suction can have it is a smart move, and I had trouble finding fault with this toy.

Packaging

As an elder millennial, I tend to fall in love again and again with the new marketing of sex toys. I grew up with toys that had marketing on the box with messages like “your dirtiest little secret” and “nymphomaniac.” These didn’t resonate with me at any point in my life, and my humanity is reaffirmed when I see marketing like the Switch X has, which says, “when the mood strikes,” and on the compliance and safety information booklet, “pleasure to the people.” How refreshing to see masturbation treated as a healthy adult activity rather than some pathologized nonsense. The marketing on the packaging gets full marks.

The packaging

The box it comes in is thin cardboard and probably won’t work for long-term storage because it folds up too easily and will quickly get nicked. As you can see above, it looks nice, though, and doesn’t come off as cheap. For less than $50, this qualifies as giftable.

Design

The design was startlingly impressive, given the price. All the parts fit together perfectly, the way they do on high-end products. I’m on the fence about the return to batteries, but I know that’s part of what makes this sucker so affordable. The user manual remarks that you won’t have to hunt to find a charging cord, but you will have to hunt for two AAA batteries whenever you wear the originals down.

Material

A body-safe silicone clit sucker for under $50? ROMP and Lovehoney somehow made this jewel of innovation a reality. Yes, the Switch X is made from silicone, so you’ll have a luxury experience on a budget. Extraordinary!

Stimulations

The suction is on the lighter side, but for a budget sucker like this, that’s a great thing. This device will appeal mostly to people who haven’t tried clitoral suction before, so starting with gentle air pulses is ideal.

Sound Level

The ROMP Switch X was quieter than I expected, which is always a nice surprise. When I tested the sound levels, they ranged from 36 to 56. It’s even quieter when you get it suctioned around your clit, and it’s barely noticeable if you are in bed and put the comforter on top of you.

Build Quality and Dimensions

The build quality is astoundingly good for such an affordable clitoral suction stimulator. The dimensions are slightly small compared with most clit suckers, but the shorter handle in no way diminishes the overall experience (You can see how it compares size-wise with some other models in the below image).

Ease of Use

The Switch X couldn’t be easier to use. It has an intuitive two-button interface (image below) that you can figure out without first glancing at the instructions. The only tricky thing about this toy is that you’ll have to keep batteries on hand and be careful when you wash it since it is not waterproof.

Versatility

The main category where the Switch X loses points is versatility. It only does clitoral suction, but clitoral suction is enough to make many people with vulvas squirt. And with an under $50 price, you can’t expect a ton of versatility. I do wish that it were waterproof because when I was trying clitoral suction for the first time, that helped me get comfortable with the positioning. Using clit suckers underwater helped me mitigate the overwhelming sensations, and that won’t be an option with the ROMP Switch X.

Warranty and Support

Lovehoney offers a 60-day return policy if you haven’t opened the Switch X. And ROMP offers a two-year warranty, an astounding guarantee for an under-$50 toy.

Minor Issues I Found During Testing

A silicone, body-safe clitoral suction stimulator by a trusted brand for $35 is a rare find indeed, and I didn’t have many qualms with the ROMP Switch X. Sure, the stimulations are lighter, but that makes the Switch X a perfect introduction to suction stimulation, so I think that makes sense. There’s not much versatility, but all the features are in line with the price point.

Alternatives to the ROMP Switch X

Satisfyer Pro 2

The Satisfyer Pro 2 is another budget clit sucker. The design is clunky and significantly less aesthetically pleasing than the ROMP Switch X but the handle is longer, making it easier to masturbate with lube without getting the sucker too slippery. It’s waterproof, which makes a big difference but it is almost twice the price at $60.

Womanizer Starlet Snow

Smaller than the ROMP Switch X, the Womanizer Starlet Snow has gentle suction, too. Holding the Starlet Snow while using lube is incredibly tricky, so keeping a rag nearby is crucial. There are only four settings, so if you like to start very light and ramp up a lot, getting the two extra settings the ROMP Switch X offers is worth it. The small size makes the Starlet a better travel buddy, and it also comes with a recharging cable, which I prefer to use. The Starlet Snow costs $80, so you will pay dearly for its brand name and rechargeability.

Inya Rose

Inya Rose is the prettiest budget clit sucker; that’s for sure. So, if you want something that you will be tempted to leave out on your nightstand, this is the best selection. It is adorable, waterproof, and only costs $40, comparable to the ROMP Switch X. It also comes with a recharging cable and a storage bag, which are luxury touches that the ROMP Switch X lacks, and it has ten settings. However, Inya Rose will be more difficult to clean, and the battery life isn’t amazing. Lastly, the Inya Rose is fairly loud and will not be a great choice for someone who needs a discreet device.
