Unboxing

The packaging for Avo is extremely discreet, since the box has nothing but the word “Nancy” on it. One thing I appreciated about this unboxing experience is that because of the Avo’s shape, it didn’t roll around freely in the box, and instead stayed put in its little cardboard crater. Also, I thought that a charging cable was not included, but it was just hiding behind the instruction cards.

The box was discreet, as was the drawstring bag that came with it. Instead of a traditional instruction booklet, it has a small pack of cards, each one with something different, be it a guide, a promo code, etc. It even includes QR codes that take you to curated playlists, in case you want to set the self-care scene with some music.

How Do I Use The Avo?

First, fire up your Avo with the included USB pin charger. The charging port is located on the pointy end of the toy. A light behind the N button will glow as it charges. This toy has about a 90 minute playtime for a 90 minute charge time.
It’s always helpful to apply a bit of lube around the rim of a suction toy so that it stays in place surrounding your clit.

My Personal Experience

Design

I did have two issues with this design, however. The hole meant to fit over your clit is extremely small. So, Avo just won’t be a comfortable fit for everyone. What’s extra frustrating is that I would think it would be relatively easy to have different size holes you can pop on and off, the way Womanizer toys do.

My other issue was the shape. It looked adorable, don’t get me wrong, but there wasn’t an intuitive way to hold it. It was thin enough that I really had to wrap my fingers around it (unlike the Lem or an actual avocado that I could just hold loosely), but it wasn’t long enough to have a proper handle. Although thinking about how much a traditional vibrator this size would be giving me an intense hand massage with the traveling vibrations definitely put things into perspective! The Avo certainly wasn’t uncomfortable to hold, but it took a few adjustments to get it just right in my hand.

The Avo is made of medical grade silicone. It feels very silky and smooth (just the way I like my silicone toys). It’s not squishy or flexible, but most suction toys aren’t.

Any sex toy with this much power is bound to make a bit of sound. However, since it’s a suction toy, it’s a lot quieter than a traditional, equally powerful vibrator would be. Also, suction toys only make noise when they’re not touching you. With the Avo firmly pressed against you, it’ll make a very discreet choice for travel, or just a crowded living situation.

Build Quality and Dimensions

With a length of only three inches and a width and height of 2 inches, Avo is absolutely tiny. Not ideal in a real avocado, but perfect for a travel toy. The only downside of its smallness was that it took me a few tries to find the best way of holding it.

I was also impressed by the build quality. While it would be easy to sell a product this cute on its looks alone, it is a genuinely great suction toy. Nancy doesn’t cut corners!

Ease of Use

With just one button that cycles through the different stimulations, the Avo’s interface couldn’t be simpler. However, I’m not going to wholeheartedly call it easy to use. First of all, getting a good grip on it was a bit tricky, considering its small, slim shape. But more importantly, the hole that’s supposed to fit around the clitoris is extremely small. So, it’s just not going to work for every body.

Versatility

Aside from being waterproof and a great choice for travel, I wouldn’t call the Avo versatile, but that’s okay. It’s a suction toy that suctions really, really well, so who could ask for anything more?

Review Summary

Tiny? Yes. Adorable? Yes. Powerful? Yes. This toy ticks all the boxes it promised and was an even nicer treat than avocado toast. That said, it still wasn’t a perfect toy. Every avocado must have its seed, after all, and this toy had two: the tiny opening and the slightly awkward shape. However, the pros (including the fact that it had patterns) definitely outweighed the cons as far as I’m concerned.

Alternatives to Hello Nancy Avo

The Nancy Lem

It’s hard to talk about the Avo and not talk about its sister toy, the Lem. Nancy themselves has a post breaking down the differences between these two fabulous fruits (the most obvious of which being that the Lem being much gentler and a better beginner option), but I’ll give my own perspective as well.

I found the Lem easier to hold, but it had an annoying little flap that didn’t quite cover the charging port. They both had patterns (yay), but they both had that absolutely tiny little hole (boo). Personally, I liked the Avo a little better overall, but if you prefer a bit of a warmup and don’t want to be absolutely pummeled by your suction toy, then the Lem might be a better option.

Pro 2 Classic Blossom

If the Avo sounds a bit intense, and you’re just not totally sold on the idea of a suction toy, then the Satisfyer Pro 2 Classic Blossom is a great option. It has two heads that can be swapped out, one of which is a Liquid Air cap that converts the air pulsations into tapping sensations.
