The content of the box

Ben-wa balls are also known as jade balls, Kegel balls, and now “jiggle balls.” They were first documented in sixth-century Japan and have enjoyed a comparatively recent boost in popularity, thanks to the Fifty Shades franchise.

By any name, they are small weighted balls that are inserted in the vagina and used to train pelvic floor muscles. Pelvic floor dysfunction is linked to incontinence and a stronger pelvic floor can mean stronger orgasms, so this is something that everyone with a uterus should seriously consider (as with any set of muscles, it’s generally more beneficial to start training before you notice any problems).

We’re here with the Fifty Shades of Grey Tighten and Tense Silicone Jiggle Balls. Despite the branding, which is very much a love-it-or-hate-it thing, they’re a pretty solid take on a classic intimate health tool.

Key Takeaways
3 out of 5 stars

The Fifty Shades of Grey Tighten and Tense Silicone Jiggle Balls are decent quality and they do exactly what they are supposed to do. They are intended for beginners, which is not a bad thing at all, but if you’ve been doing plenty of Kegels or other pelvic floor exercises, you may need more resistance to see any further effects.

Who Should Try It? The Fifty Shades of Grey Tighten and Tense Silicone Jiggle Balls are a good choice for anyone who wants to get started with pelvic floor training. They are body-safe, beginner-appropriate, and budget-friendly.

Who Can Skip It? Experienced users will not be challenged. And if you’re hoping for immediate gratification based on the Fifty Shades marketing, you won’t find it here.

What Are the Tighten and Tense Jiggle Balls?

Shakespeare wrote that “a rose by any other name would smell as sweet,” and we think that applies here too. These have a new name and new (considering the 1500-year history) branding, and they are made of silicone instead of carved stone, but they are ben-wa balls all dressed up.

Fifty Shades of Grey Tighten and Tense Silicone Jiggle Balls

They dress up nicely, though. These Kegel balls are made of silky silicone with a sophisticated matte black finish, and they are nicely weighted. They’re easy to use and they are beginner-friendly. Kegel balls are made to strengthen the pelvic floor, and if you use the Fifty Shades of Grey Tighten and Tense Jiggle Balls regularly, you’ll very likely feel the difference in a few weeks.

First Impressions and Features

Unboxing

The packaging is as good as can be expected at this price point. The box is sturdy enough, and it’s glossy and neatly printed. The Fifty Shades branding is prominent, which some folks will appreciate more than others, and there’s a product photo on the front of the box. This is not a discreet plain brown wrapper!

The packaging

Inside the box are the balls and a very basic user guide. There is no storage pouch or other accessories, but again, this is a $25 piece of gear. It’s clear that the manufacturer prioritized the product over the packaging, and honestly, we’re okay with that (even if the unboxing was less than exciting).

The Kegel balls are solid and balanced, and they feel very nice in the hand. They’re constructed of silky smooth, solid silicone with enough “give” that they don’t feel rigid. Considering the price point, we’re impressed.

How to Use the Tighten and Tense Jiggle Balls

These are beginner-friendly in every way. They are super easy to use, and the resistance level is appropriate for folks who are relatively new to pelvic floor training.

  1. A moderate amount of good-quality water-based lube makes insertion easier (and really, we can say that for just about every product that we review here).
  2. If you are a tampon user, the insertion and removal of the Fifty Shades of Grey Tighten and Tense Jiggle Balls will feel very familiar. Angle them towards your tailbone and gently guide them in. Make sure that the silicone tail is accessible for an easy retrieval.
  3. Your body will naturally grip the spheres to keep them in place. Moving around as you usually do is enough to start with as your body gets used to them.
  4. You can start out by wearing them for 10 to 15 minutes at a time, and when you are ready, advancing to gentle Kegel exercises. You will likely notice a difference in pelvic floor strength after a few weeks.

My Personal Experience

The results of pelvic floor training can indeed be dramatic, but the first go-round with the Fifty Shades of Grey Tighten and Tense Jiggle Balls? Not so much. I could feel them, of course, and they weren’t uncomfortable at all, but they also didn’t feel like they were doing much. Trust us that they are, and don’t overtrain — see how you feel the day after, and adjust accordingly.

The content of the box

I started to notice a real difference after about two weeks of regular use. Things felt tighter and neater, and both my partner and I were aware that my orgasms were much more powerful. There aren’t a lot of things in life where we get this much payoff for this little effort!

Design

We aren’t necessarily fans of the Fifty Shades franchise, and we weren’t quite sure what to expect from this prominently branded product — but it wasn’t understated, functional sophistication.

Closeup of the retrieval cord

However, that’s what we got, and honestly, we aren’t the least bit disappointed. The Fifty Shades of Grey Tighten and Tense Jiggle Balls are a classic set of Kegel balls in deep matte black. We did appreciate that the “tail,” which is made of the same material as the body, is thick and sturdy. We weren’t worried about any mishaps.

Material and Quality

The Fifty Shades of Grey Tighten and Tense Jiggle Balls do not feel like a $25 piece of gear! They are molded from silky smooth silicone and the internal weights are nicely balanced. The medical-grade silicone is body-safe and seamless. There was no odd chemical smell or off-gassing when we opened the box (in fairness, the cardboard did allow for ventilation). This is clearly not a luxury item, but it doesn’t feel like a budget one either.

How It Feels

The point of the Fifty Shades of Grey Tighten and Tense Jiggle Balls is not how they feel in the moment (which, for the record, is not at all unpleasant!). The point is to strengthen the Kegel muscles and pelvic floor, which should intensify orgasms as well as provide other health and wellness benefits.

We will admit that sometimes it’s fun to walk around with the Kegel balls in place. It’s a little secret, and it feels naughty in a fun way to know that I’m working on my orgasms while I’m putting gas in my car.

All the Kegel balls we tested

Ease of Use

They are easy to use, full stop. There’s nothing to charge, download, or prep in any way. You just lube them a little, slide them in, and live your best life. You can speed up the training by doing Kegel exercises with the Fifty Shades of Grey Tighten and Tense Jiggle Balls on board, but you don’t have to. They are also easy to clean with mild fragrance-free soap and plenty of warm water.

Versatility

The Fifty Shades of Grey Tighten and Tense Jiggle Balls are versatile in that you can use them reasonably discreetly (except for inserting and removing) anywhere you happen to be. Talk about multitasking! But if you’re looking for a multi-purpose device or sex toy, this isn’t it. They are a set of weights and that’s pretty much it.

Warranty and Support

The Fifty Shades of Grey toys don’t have a warranty or support program. However, if you purchase from a reputable retailer such as Lovehoney, you will get some protection through that retailer. You may also have protection through your credit card.

However, this is a $25 item. Warranty is not a major concern. And considering the material and build quality of ours, we don’t anticipate any issues at all.

Minor Issues I Found During Testing

The Fifty Shades of Grey Tighten and Tense Jiggle Balls are well-made and high-quality, but if you’re a person who judges a book by its cover, you’d never find out how nice the product is because you’d pass on it due to the unimpressive packaging and presentation.

These Kegel balls are very beginner-friendly, which we appreciate. However, if you’re not a beginner and/or you’ve made good progress in your pelvic floor training, you might find yourself outgrowing this set pretty quickly.

Alternatives to the Tighten and Tense Jiggle Balls

Do you like the idea of Kegel balls but want something different? We recommend looking at:

Satisfyer V Balls

The Fifty Shades of Grey Tighten and Tense Jiggle Balls are an entry-level product; this is good for some folks and less so for others. The Satisfyer V Balls set comes with three sets of weighted balls so you can advance as you strengthen your muscles. They are color-coded so you can tell them apart easily, and the silicone is lush and velvety.

Femme Funn Momenta Kegel Balls

The Femme Funn Momenta Kegel Balls are motorized, which means that you can get a different kind of satisfaction from your pelvic floor workout. This isn’t for everyone, of course, but if you think that it’s for you, this is a good choice. The silicone feels almost plush. It’s not really a surprise that this set costs more than others we’ve reviewed, since adding vibration (and excellent vibes at that) is a pricey upgrade.
