Unboxing
Lovense is pretty consistent with its branding and packaging. So much so all it takes is a glance, and you’ll instantly know it’s a Lovense product and that it is synonymous with quality. That’s why I always feel confident buying their products.
As expected, my Lovense Ridge arrived in discreet packaging, leaving the postman and my neighbors none the wiser. The toy was contained within the signature Lovense white box (seen in the image above) with an image of the device on the front. It came bundled with a USB charging cord (with a magnetic connection to the toy), a user manual, and a black satin drawstring storage bag. This is another feature of Lovense toys that I love. They don’t mess around when it comes to pleasure, so you can get straight to business.

How to Use the Lovense Ridge
- Prepare: If it’s your first time, take all the time you need to feel at ease. The more relaxed you are, the easier the experience will be.
- Lube up: Always use plenty of lube during anal play. Unlike the vagina, the anus is not a self-lubricating organ, so be sure to use as much lube as you need. When using silicone toys like the Ridge, always use water-based lubricant.
- Insert beads: Holding on to the base, start with the smallest bead, and slowly work your way up to the largest whenever you’re comfortable. This does not have to happen in the first session. Go with what works for you.
- Go through the motions manually: To turn it on, press the ON/OFF button down hard and hold it for 3-5 seconds. It will vibrate for one second when it’s on. Then, use the buttons to cycle through the vibrations and rotations according to your preference.
- Customize the sensations using the Lovense Remote mobile app: This app is free to download. When you’ve got your Lovense Ridge turned on, you’ll see an option to connect it once the app has detected the toy. Connect the device to the Lovense Remote mobile app. The app will show you the status of the connection, and the remaining battery life. Go back to the home screen, and tap “Remote”. On the right side of the screen, you’ll see two functions, “Slide” and “Traditional”. If you use the “Slide” function, the pink toggle controls the vibrations, and the blue toggle controls the rotation. You can move the toggles to control the toy however you like! You can also create a loop so it will continue moving in a pattern you have created. It’s useful when you’ve found a combination that works for you! If you don’t like the “Slide” function, you can keep things simple by using the “Traditional” function, which consists of just two sliders moving up and down to control the intensity of the vibrations and the rotations respectively.
- Removal (for best results): as you’re about to orgasm, gently pull it out for a more intense experience!
- Post-play maintenance: When you’re done, clean it thoroughly with soap and warm water or with a toy cleaner. You can store them in the black satin pouch that comes with the toy.

My Personal Experience
I’ve sometimes not had great experiences with sex toys that incorporate a lot of tech. But having tried the Lovense Ridge, I think Lovense designers have gone over and beyond the hump when it comes to sex tech. Not only is the physical shape and feel of the toy itself very intuitive and comfortable, but the Lovense Remote mobile app integration is seamless and very user-friendly compared to others I’ve tried before. The level of customization you can have with this toy makes each experience unique. When I use this with my partner, I feel so connected to them, and to some extent, it trains them to understand my responses to different stimulations too. It’s a terrific product!
Packaging
As I mentioned, Lovense packaging is consistent in terms of quality and presentation. The lack of frills gives me the feeling that the Lovense designers have confidence in their product and see no need to hype it up with a bunch of other stuff.
Inside a simple and sturdy white box, I found my Lovense Ridge, a user manual, a black satin storage pouch, and a magnetic USB charging cable (all seen in the above image). I was able to jump straight into the experience, and personally, I think the packaging is great for casual gifting. It isn’t over the top, yet you would still instantly be able to put a smile on someone’s face!
Build Quality
Lovense is genuinely committed to quality and user satisfaction. The feel is luxurious and sturdy. The sleek tip is easy to insert, and the rotations do not feel clumsy inside of you. It’s genuinely a little beast, built for action, especially when you consider it can rotate 116 times a minute on the highest rotation setting!
Design
There’s so much to be said about the design that I’m not sure where to start. Gradually progressing bead size is always a nice feature, whether you’re a beginner checking things out for the first time or an experienced analyst. The base grip is firm yet a bit squidgy, so it was very easy to grip and maneuver. It was also comfortable to sit on once the toy was inside of me.
It was so easy to insert, and the material made for such a natural fit too. I am a bit on the larger side, but the ergonomic design made it easy to insert all the same. You can also bend the bottom joint however you like. That means the toy can cater to all positions and play styles.
Materials
The Lovense Ridge is coated in soft, body-safe silicone. This feature always helps me feel more reassured, and it also helps the toy glide in more easily. Unlike toys made of cheap materials, it does not harbor any offputting chemical smells either. Given that it is also waterproof, it’s great for playing in the bath or shower and is very easy to clean. (You can see Ridge next to a banana below as a size reference.)
Ease of use
I would say the Lovense Ridge was pretty straightforward to use once I got the hang of the mobile app interface. You can choose to use the preset programs, or you can create your own – can’t go wrong either way! I think those who are not great with tech may encounter some awkward moments if they don’t spend a bit of time familiarizing themselves with the Lovense Remote mobile app’s features.
That said, I don’t think it will take that long before you get the hang of it. On the upside, a few friends have told me that the time spent figuring out the app made the build-up to sex all the more intense!
Stimulations
Once inside, the combination of vibration and rotations generated by the Lovense Ridge indirectly stimulates the anal canal. That’s what makes it so effective in bringing on mind-bending orgasms when compared to regular anal beads that do not have a rotating function. For beginners, gentle rotation helps with insertion. Additionally, the vibrations from the beads and the base feel welcoming, so all in all, you get a really nice introduction. I think many would agree that there’s no bigger loss than a terrible first experience to put you off anal play completely.
Some people may choose to start with a simpler product on the cheaper end of the price spectrum but I think, if you can afford it, the more expensive products do offer a lot of benefits that are often overlooked. What sets the Lovense Ridge apart from other toys is how you can experience so many different combinations of vibrations and rotations; so not only will it give beginners a great introduction to the world of anal, it will also continue to deliver a host of pleasurable experiences for a long time.
Versatility
Being a unisex toy, the Lovense Ridge was designed with anyone and everyone in mind. My partner and I have both enjoyed hours of pleasure with this one toy, so I would say it was well worth the money. It is truly a versatile toy, as we have used it in and outside the house. I had it inside me at a grocery store once while my partner was on the app controlling the vibrations. It got so intense that I had to find a quiet corner to pull it out, and doing so delivered a huge squirting orgasm right on the shop floor. I was both mortified but also relieved when I recalled that the toy was waterproof. It would have been a whole other layer of fuckery if the experience had involved an inferior product!
Sound Level
The Lovense Ridge is powerful yet quiet. It is below 50dB, which means it has allowed us to maintain privacy even in public spaces. This has, of course, expanded the types of adventures we can have with it!
App Control
I found the Lovense Remote mobile app very easy to use (screenshots below). Once you’ve downloaded the app (it’s free), all you have to do is connect the device via Bluetooth and play around with the interface. The app will show you the status of the connection, and the remaining battery life.
Navigate to the home screen and tap “Remote”. On the right side, you’ll see two functions, “Slide” and “Traditional”. If you use the “Slide” function, the pink toggle controls the vibrations, and the blue toggle controls the rotation.

You can freely move these toggles. There is also an option to do a loop, like when you’re playing guitar. You record the motion you have made, and the Lovense Ridge will keep repeating it. This is great for when you’ve found a motion that truly hits the spot! If you don’t like the “Slide” function, you can keep things simple by using the “Traditional” function, which consists of just two sliders moving up and down to control the intensity of the vibrations and the rotations respectively.
Minor issues I found during testing
At times, I found that it took a few tries for the Bluetooth to connect. I’m not sure if that was just my phone, though. The ability to sync to music apparently helps boost the experience for a lot of people, but in my personal experience, it felt a little awkward. But maybe that is just because I don’t like to be distracted while I’m getting busy!
