18 Sexy Roleplay Ideas To Spice Up Your Bedroom

If you want to spice up your sex life, consider role-playing with your partner. This can be as elaborate or as simple as you choose. While we believe strongly that sex between a committed couple just continues to get better and better (as long as both want it to), role-playing can fulfill the occasional desire for something new and different. You can experiment with ideas and fantasies that are very different from your day-to-day and that, truthfully, probably wouldn’t be all that fun in real life!

1. High-Class Escort and Rich Customer

Here, you get to put on your party clothes and your best manners. One of you is a high-class escort and one of you is a C-suite executive traveling for business.

You could start by texting to set up the “appointment.” Or if you are feeling extra adventurous, go have a drink at your city’s nicest hotel and let your client approach you (or vice versa).

Once you’ve made contact, it’s time to start the negotiations. Remember that an elite escort’s job is to make their client feel like a million dollars! Let them tell you exactly what they want and then fulfill their every whim. On the client’s part, they are in awe of your skills and lucky to be in your presence.

2. Cheap $10 Hooker and Customer

If the above scenario feels a little too polite for your current mood, you can take it downtown and downscale. Now, one of you is a streetwalker desperate for cash and one of you is looking for a quick release after a long day.

We suggested acting out the first scenario at a hotel bar, but we don’t necessarily suggest that you take this one on location (we are all about safe and sane). Still, you can dress the part and act out the solicitation.

When it’s time to get down to business, remember that the streetwalker will do anything for a price and the customer has enough cash to play the game for a while. You get all the excitement of this dynamic in a much nicer and cleaner bedroom than it would usually take place in!

3. Filming a Porn Movie

You can pretend to make a porn movie, or you can set up a selfie stick and actually make one — it’s totally up to you and your comfort levels!

Gather any costumes and/or props that you want. You can write a full script or just decide on a basic scenario and ad-lib from there. Let your imagination run wild — if there’s something that you’ve wanted to try but felt a little shy, you can write it into your script so that it’s your character making the suggestion (of course, consent matters, so establish boundaries and safe words with your partner)!

Note: if you do decide to actually record your roleplay here, do not be surprised or disappointed when you decide to replay it. Even professional porn actors acknowledge that there’s sex that feels good, and sex that looks good for the camera, and they rarely converge. Your recording will be a very happy memory even if it wouldn’t win any cinematography awards.

4. Trouble With the Law

This one is for those who find authority to be spicy! And we get it — there’s definitely something to be said for knowing who is the boss. One of you is a police officer, and one of you has just gotten caught.

You can bring costumes and props to this role-play if you are so inclined. It is tailor-made for handcuffs, but you can also incorporate a baton, a belt, or anything else that suits your story line.

There are a few different ways to play this, depending on your comfort levels. The perpetrator can beg or bargain for mercy. The officer can get handsy when they are putting on the cuffs. As always, consent and comfort are key, and some folks may have more anxiety around this scenario than others, so be sure to keep checking in with each other.

5. Boss and Employee

Here’s another one for when you’re in the mood to dress up in nice clothes and use your classiest lines. Probably a full half or more of the Harlequin romance novels centered around this idea, so it’s definitely one that has a lot of appeal.

One of you is a powerful C-suite executive and one of you is an admin, an intern, a maintenance worker, or someone else way down on the org chart. Think about what roles you want to play: the boss is clearly in charge, but are you a mean boss or a benevolent one?

And is the underling angling for a promotion or trying to save their job after losing a big account? Or, is this just a regular day at the office that takes an interesting turn?

6. Cosplay Sex

Rule 34 states that if it exists, someone has created porn of it. You can extend this to role-play! Whether it’s your favorite TV show, movie, book, graphic novel, video game, anime, or anything else, you and your partner can pick your favorite characters and write scripts that would never make it on network TV.

There’s no reason why you can’t mix-and-match, either. Maybe Count Dracula and Lara Croft never appeared on screen together, but they can certainly meet in your bedroom!

You know your characters best, so you know what costumes and props you need. Crafting your own costume allows you to make it sexier than what you can buy in most stores. Take some time to really get into character and set a scene where super-hot sex is the only possible ending.

7. BDSM Role-Play Sex

Most of us know that BDSM is about bondage, discipline, sadism, and masochism. For many folks, it’s a lifestyle. Some others may be interested but also intimidated. If you aren’t quite sure how to bring up BDSM to your partner, one idea is to suggest “role-playing.” When you are new to this kind of play, it can feel easier to let your character be submissive (or dominant, or switching back and forth).

Even in role-play, consent and boundaries matter. You and your partner should set expectations and limits. Establish a safe word where all action stops immediately. Check in with each other during and especially after a scene.

There is a very good chance that losing your virginity was an exciting but awkward and unfulfilling experience. Wouldn’t it be fun to recapture that excitement now that you know what you’re doing?

This is something that you can role-play with your partner. You can pretend that it’s prom night or that your parents are out of town for the weekend. Find some clothes that make you feel like a teenager again and put on music from back in the day.

If you and your partner are comfortable with it, they can “persuade” you to have sex. Or they can seduce you by giving you your first orgasm. Maybe you’re the one doing the seducing and showing your partner what kind of pleasure their body can experience!

9. Doctor-Patient Relationship

Sometimes the taboo is part of the thrill, and this is a perfect example of that. And another part of what makes this scenario exciting is that the patient is already naked and vulnerable.

You don’t need a full-on hospital suite for this kind of role-play. A white sheet and a clipboard should be enough to set the mood. If you happen to have a stethoscope or blood pressure cuff at home, all the better! If you find that you like this kind of play, there are medical fetish toys to experiment with.

You and your partner can play this a few different ways. The most straightforward is to start out with a physical exam and get carried away. But the patient can also present with a sex-related issue that the doctor needs to investigate, or the doctor can suggest a special “treatment” that needs to be demonstrated in the office.

10. French Maid and Millionaire Mogul

This is a classic fantasy along the lines of “Boss and Employee,” except that the power dynamics are even more pronounced. Costumes and props really do matter here, but luckily, the popularity of this scenario means that there are plenty of sexy, skimpy maid costumes easily available. Pick one that you like, but not so much that you’ll be upset if it gets torn off!

The millionaire is confident and doesn’t think twice about asking the maid to serve them, even when that service is personal (such as fixing a crease in their pants). The maid knows their place and is eager to serve. It’s easy to see where this can go!

Note: there’s no reason why the French maid can’t be a Greek pool boy if you and your partner prefer these roles. The whole point of role-playing is to create a scenario that’s fun and fulfilling for everyone involved.

11. Food Delivery Person

Food delivery is a part of almost everyone’s lives these days, so why not make it a part of your sex life as well? Imagine a delicious dinner and a delicious delivery person right at your front door!

Get yourself ready to greet your delivery person. You can wear party clothes because you’re getting ready to head out and want to eat first, or you can wear cute (easy access!) pajamas because you were planning a night in, or you can wrap yourself in a towel because the delivery person interrupted your shower.

You can offer your delivery person a tip to bring your meal into the house. They can suggest what they would prefer instead of a cash tip, or you can offer a larger tip for additional services. Either way, it’s their job to satisfy the customer!

12. Plumber Role-Play Sex

Service technicians are good with their hands and with their tools, which means that this is an excellent scenario to role-play. Like the food delivery scenario above, once you invite the plumber into your house, the fun and games can start.

The plumber may need your assistance or for you to hand them tools. If they are working in close quarters, there are a lot of opportunities for physical contact. Or maybe someone needs to test out the shower to see if it works after the repair?

13. Professor and Student Role-Play

Like the doctor-patient roleplay, this is another scenario that would be highly problematic in real life, but this only adds to the excitement when you’re both enthusiastically consenting adults. (As always, make sure that you check in with each other to be absolutely sure that you are both comfortable with the role-play and its implications.)

One of you is a professor and one of you is a student, obviously. The rest is up to you! Will the student do anything for extra credit? Is the student in need of some strict discipline? Does the professor want to mentor the student in the ways of the world? Or in these days of remote learning, has the professor caught the student using their computer inappropriately?

One advantage of this scenario is that it doesn’t need much in the way of costumes and props, which means that you can roll with it as soon as you and your partner agree that it sounds like fun.

This also works well — maybe even better in some ways — if you role-play coach and student, or yoga teacher and student. It’s much easier to start the physical contact with either of these role-plays. (We recommend downward dog and standing forward bend.)

14. Role-Reversal Play

This may not meet the true definition of “role-play,” but it’s a great way to switch things up. And it has the potential to open up lines of discussion and communication with your partner, and that is always a very good thing! (It also has the potential to hit a sore spot or two, so this kind of role-play should always be approached from a desire to learn and experience, NOT from an urge to “put them in their place.”)

If you are a person with more responsive desire and you usually prefer your partner to initiate, it’s worthwhile to step out of your comfort zone a little and take the lead! Try some Amazon-style (the warrior tribe, not the retailer) sex if you need inspiration. And if you are the one who typically makes the moves, sit back and enjoy being seduced for a change.

15. Masseuse Role-Play Sex

Giving/getting a massage can lead to all sorts of other fun things, so it’s perfect for a fun roleplay. Plus, one of you is already naked!

Like some of the other role-play suggestions, this one benefits from the premise that a service provider is eager to serve the client, either out of a desire to do the job right or the desire for cold hard cash. Both of these can be fun to play out in their own way; it depends on your personalities and your mood.

If you own a massage table, or better yet a milking table, you know what to do with it. But a bed or couch covered with a white sheet is plenty to get started. Add some music, some candles to set the scene, and some massage oil or lotion!

Pro tip: try a lotion candle! These start out as fragrant candles and turn into lotion as they burn and melt. Being massaged with warm, scented lotion is an incredibly sensual experience.

16. The Painter and Their Muse

This one is a little high-brow and more than a little romantic. Wouldn’t you feel special if you were the inspiration for a masterpiece? Here, one of you is a famous painter and one of you is a work of art!

Many great paintings are nudes, so that’s a logical place to start, but you can do this any way that you want to. The painter has the opportunity to pose the model any way that they want to, and of course, they also have the opportunity to let the model know how beautiful they are!

This is even more fun if you actually have some artistic talent, of course, but it works just fine no matter what. And, (clean, new) paintbrushes feel very interesting against naked skin, just so you know.

17. Stranger Role-Play Sex

In reality, sex with a stranger is not very safe and usually not very good. But role-playing sex with a stranger? That’s super hot.

You and your partner can set up whatever scenario you choose — last call at the bar, standing in line for coffee, new neighbor moving in, or whatever fantasy you have secretly entertained. This lets you bust out your best pickup lines with confidence (because you know that they’ll say yes).

Then you get the fun of discovering each other all over again. Remember how excited you were the first time that your partner shared their body with you? You can relive that. And of course, since you’re supposed to be strangers, you don’t know what the other person likes, so you can take turns teaching each other your bodies and preferences.

If you’re feeling extra adventurous, this is a role-play that you can take on location to that bar, coffee shop, etc.

18. Flight Attendant Role-Play

This one, however, probably should not be played out on location! One of you is a glamorous flight attendant and one of you is flying first class. This scenario incorporates several aspects of other role-play fantasies: wearing uniforms, providing service, sex with a stranger.

The flight attendant can serve the passenger a drink or help them fasten their seatbelt. Demonstrating the oxygen mask is another opportunity for physical contact. The passenger can request a blanket and the flight attendant can tuck it around them. However it starts, though, the culmination of this role-play is joining the mile-high club!

How Roleplay Works and How to Do It Right?

Like most aspects of sex, the only hard-and-fast rules are around expectations, boundaries, and consent. Sex is much better when these are clarified up front; then, you can relax and enjoy whatever kind of sex play you want within those boundaries.

And role-playing is no different. One of the freeing aspects of role-play is that it’s not you, it’s your character, and your character can make suggestions or engage in acts that you are a little shy about. This is liberating, and it’s a lot of fun, but it’s not a reason or excuse to push past your partner’s boundaries.

So before you get started, talk through what you’re hoping to do, what you’re willing to do, but also any hard lines that you have. You might think that this kind of talk is not sexy, but please believe us that trust and transparency is actually very sexy in practice.

More tangible prep for role-playing would be assembling any costumes or props that you want for your scenario. This gives you another opportunity to talk through expectations that either or both of you have for your role-play. You can be as elaborate or as minimal as you please.

For some couples, planning and preparation is part of the fun; for others, the fantasy is primarily a mental thing and they’re plenty happy with just what they need for the storyline.

The most important thing is to enjoy yourself and enjoy your partner, within the expectations and boundaries that you have established!
