FirmTech RingMateSex toys designed by a doctor? That’s the order of the day, thanks to FirmTech RingMate, a clitoral vibrator made for solo and couple play. Ring vibrators are mostly used as an accompaniment to fingering during coupled play, but they also work well for solo play as a standalone device. I wanted to find out what features may differ on this rechargeable finger vibe due to the medical expertise involved in the design. Here’s what I found during the research for my FirmTech RingMate review.

Key Takeaways
4.2 out of 5 stars

Overall, this is a solid, if pricey, offering from FirmTech. People who already use FirmTech’s erection rings and want something pleasurable for their partner will want to buy this compatible device.

Who Should Try It? If your partner has a FirmTech erection ring and you want a vibrator that will be compatible, the RingMate is a no-brainer.

Who Can Skip It? If you are on a budget, you can find much cheaper clitoral vibes of similar quality, like the Dame Fin.

You Can Buy It on the official FirmTech website for $125.

What Is the FirmTech RingMate?

FirmTech RingMate is a clitoral vibrator that you use with any compatible Firmtech product. If you are getting close to climaxing during penetrative sex but can’t quite reach the finish line, this device may be what you need to get off with your partner.

First Impressions and Features

Unboxing

The unboxing experience was surprisingly pleasant. I say surprisingly because FirmTech is a doctor-driven, science-based sex company. It’s not a luxury brand that would just as comfortably tout automobiles or perfume. The website feels techy, but the unboxing was thoughtful and giftable.

The RingMate comes in a small, sturdy black box that strangely says “myfemmetech” on the side. After researching, I found that FemmeTech is a line of products meant for women that is a part of FirmTech’s larger company, though RingMate isn’t available for sale on the FemmeTech site.

The content of the box

The inside is double-walled pink cardboard, structured enough to make a permanent home for the vibrator. But it won’t need a permanent home! The device comes with its own container—a pretty, black storage bag. Also included is the vibrator, its ring-shaped exterior, and a small sheet of instructions (All items can be seen above).

Features

The FirmTech RingMate has solid features, including:

  • Durable, body-safe materials
  • Lightweight, easy-to-wear design
  • Three intensity levels
  • Works in tandem with FirmTech’s erection rings
  • The LED light alerts you when the battery is low

Specifications

FirmTech RingMate specifications at a glance:

  • Material: Nontoxic medical-grade elastomer and plastic
  • Size: 1 x 1.5 x 2.25” with ring exterior
  • Color: Grey cover, pink vibrator
  • Mechanism: Clitoral vibration that you can wear on your finger
  • Weight: .75 ounces

How Do I Use the FirmTech RingMate?

After unboxing the FirmTech RingMate, the first step is to charge the vibe. When I charged it, it took almost ninety minutes to reach a full charge, and then it lasted two hours and thirty-two minutes on a full charge at the lowest setting. The website estimated it would last an hour, which it does on the highest setting. When you plug it in, the LED lights up reddish-orange, and the light glows green when it has finished charging. When the battery is low, the LED will light up red.

Now, wash the exterior with warm soap and water and dry with a lint-proof cloth. Then wipe the interior clean with a damp cloth since it’s splashproof rather than waterproof. Grab some water- or silicone-based lubricant and lube up your clit as well as the exterior of the toy. Press and hold the button on the side until the device turns on. Press the button briefly to increase the intensity. There are three settings for you to explore. Then, press and hold the button to turn the vibrator off. When you’re done, rewash it and store it inside the provided bag.

My Personal Experience

One thing about me is I love a finger vibe, which could be because I’m such a fan of fingering. Fingering is like getting penetrated, except the person doing it is solely focused on your pleasure (hot) rather than stamina or performance, and the fingers can do cool things that erections cannot, like bend, go in circles, and even work together in pairs of two or three. Neat! Adding a vibrator to all that? You’ve got yourself a perfect evening in my book.

Overall, I found the RingMate to be powerful, comfortable, and easy to climax with during fingering. When attached to a cock ring, it provides strong vibration during thrusts.

Packaging

As you can see in the image below, the packaging was nice and giftable. The box was of excellent quality, and I was thrilled by the inclusion of a storage bag.

The packaging

Design

Without the cover, the pink vibrator is almost tongue-shaped. It’s perfect for people who want pinpoint stimulation but not large enough for someone who needs broader stimulation. One problem with vibrators meant to be worn around your finger is that it’s hard to pack a powerful motor into a lightweight package, which FirmTech successfully did with the RingMate. The power is impressive, and your finger won’t get tired of wearing it because it is as light as a feather.

Material

The RingMate is made from nontoxic medical-grade elastomer and plastic. It’s phthalate- and latex-free, so it will work well for people with allergies. Since it’s not silicone, you can use this vibrator with silicone- or water-based lubricants.

The exterior is made from elastomer, and it’s one of the stickier types of materials. If you set the exterior on a piece of paper and lift it, the paper will come along for the ride, as you can see in the YouTube video below. So, in addition to this little vibe not being waterproof, it’s going to need to be cleaned well and often since the sticky exterior is a magnet for dirt, dust, and debris. It’s also so sticky that it will be uncomfortable to use without lubricant, as it may end up tangled in your pubic hair. While RingMate is safe for use on your body, its tackiness means it will attract bacteria easily.

Stimulations

I’m constantly amazed by how much power tiny vibrators can pack since I grew up using much less powerful, larger vibes. The RingMate only has three speeds, all of which are buzzy. But the top two settings are shockingly powerful, with the first being a teasing, pleasing whisper.

Sound Level

I was pleasantly surprised by how quiet the RingMate is. This thoughtful touch makes this vibrator even easier to incorporate into partnered sex. When I tested it, the decibels ranged from 36 to 60.

Build Quality and Dimensions

The build quality is not as airtight as I’ve experienced with other brands. The vibrator has a seam down the middle and a circular seam around the button (image below). All those seams will make cleaning a bit more difficult. Since there is a seam down the middle, the two halves of the exterior plastic didn’t line up perfectly, and the result meant a jagged entrance for the recharging cable.

I wondered how they would make a finger vibe with dimensions that fit most fingers because fingers vary so widely in size. My partner, for instance, has huge monster sausage fingers, and I have medium fingers. I wanted to find out whether this vibe would work for both of us since we both planned to wear it. The holes fit my fingers snugly, but since the material was so sticky, it would have stayed in place easily, even if I had smaller fingers. And the holes fit extra snug around my partner’s fingers. It’s stretchy, so size shouldn’t be an issue.

Compatibility with Other FirmTech Products

My partner and I also have the FirmTech MaxPR (short for Max Performance Ring), a cock ring designed by a doctor to help you have longer, stronger erections and better orgasms. It’s the tightest cock ring offered by Firm Tech, yet it’s made from a super stretchy material. My partner is often nervous about putting on cock rings that are super tight, but this one is comfortable and beginner friendly.

The FirmTech MaxPR is made from body-safe materials that are splashproof but not waterproof, and it has a very sticky texture. It’s a good idea to use plenty of lube, and if your partner has pubic hair, they may want to lube over their bush, too. The sticky texture can get caught on hair, but stays slippery if you use enough lube to keep things slick. This type of material picks up lint and debris so easily, so it is essential to clean MaxPR carefully after each use. Otherwise, you will be wrapping something around your goods that is covered head to toe in dust.

When we tried the RingMate combined with the MaxPR (image below), it was easier than expected, yet we did have to glance at the website to figure out how to do it. Here’s what we learned: you interlock the MaxPR with the RingMate first and then wrap the whole contraction around your penis and testicles. It was intuitive and comfortable for my partner to wear, even for hours-long Tantra sessions. His erection? Better than ever. And I didn’t complain about the added vibration sensations one bit. They were in exactly the right spot‚ something that isn’t always the case.

RingMate attached to the MaxPR Penis Ring

One thing to note about this couple’s toy setup is that if you don’t like patterns, you won’t enjoy this. Since you only get the benefit of the vibrations when your partner deeply thrusts, it creates an on-off vibration pattern—whether you like it or not. Since I tend to like consistent vibrations, this served as more of a tease for me than something that would work to bring me to orgasm. If you love the vibration patterns, though, this may be ideal.

Overall, we agreed that the intensified sensations were a huge hit. The vibrations were strong and easy for me to access in several sex positions. The cock ring was extra snug; tight, but not too tight. If you like a looser fit, FirmTech sells another ring for $60 that’s slightly longer. The MaxPR also costs $60, which we felt was high for a splashproof cock ring. They have another cock ring called the TechRing (full review here) that tracks your nocturnal erections and sends you information about your vascular and sexual health, which is $275. The price is merited in some ways, since you can use both sexual health aids together and apart, adding to the versatility. Further, the fact that it was so comfortable is priceless. It’s a worthy way to spend the evening with your loved one, if you can afford it.

Ease of Use

The FirmTech RingMate is unbelievably easy to use. The plug-in charging mechanism is straightforward, and there’s only one button. The user manual is one page, and you probably don’t even need to read it before you start self-pleasuring. The only feature that makes this less easy to use is that it has seams and isn’t waterproof, so cleaning it is more tedious than some of its peers on the market.

Versatility

This clitoral vibe earns a medium score for versatility. On the one hand, it’s excellent as a standalone vibrator for personal use. But it also works well as a vibrator during partnered sex since it comes with a shell you can wear on your fingers. Further, it works in tandem with some of FirmTech’s other offerings, like their cock rings. It’s lightweight and small, so it would be an easy choice to bring along for any kind of travel.

However, you can only use this for clitoral vibrations, and there’s no internal component. It has only three settings and will only work for people who can get off from pinpoint vibrations.

Warranty and Support

FirmTech offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on the RingMate. That means you can test it out for a month and get a full refund if you decide this isn’t the product for you, which is more generous than many other warranties on the market. It also offers a 3-month warranty, so you can expect a replacement if something goes wrong due to faulty craftsmanship or materials.

Minor Issues I Found During Testing

The main issue with this clitoral vibrator is how difficult it will be to clean. The price of $125 also seems a bit higher than other finger vibes on the market, considering that it’s not waterproof.

Alternatives to the FirmTech RingMate

Dame Fin

Dame Fin is a finger vibe that works in much the same way as the FirmTech RingMate. It comes in two colors, quartz and citrus, and costs just $50. The strap is removable, and you can hold the vibrator via the grooves in the toy if the strap isn’t comfortable. It comes with a three-year warranty and is USB rechargeable. It also comes in recyclable packaging.

Fin Finger vibrator from Dame Products

The Dame Fin is one of my go-to toys because you can’t beat the ease of use. It is slightly less powerful and noisier than the RingMate. If power matters most to you and you can afford it, the RingMate may be the better option. But for comfort and accessibility for all sizes of fingers, Fin is the best choice.

Lovehoney Ignite 20

Lovehoney Ignite 20 is the best choice if you’re budget-conscious, as it only costs $40. It’s waterproof, rechargeable, and bright pink. It comes with a storage bag, too. The Dame Fin uses softer silicone, but the Lovehoney Ignite has a harder feel that doesn’t mute its strong vibrations. However, the Lovehoney Ignite 20 has the tightest fit around fingers and isn’t as stretchy as the others, so it may not work for people with large fingers.
