LELO SONA 3The LELO SONA 3 is a clitoral suction toy that’s pretty enough to fall in love with. From the unboxing to the user experience on the smartphone app, this is what a luxurious orgasm feels like. You can expect LELO’s signature eye-catching unboxing, glamorous design, and jaw-dropping battery life.

But with all the clitoral suction devices on the market, how do you know if this one is worth the investment? Let’s talk about it in this LELO SONA 3 review.

Key Takeaways
4.6 out of 5 stars

This creation is the best-in-class for people who enjoy suction but want to edge, thanks to its lower settings, comfortable nozzle, and capability to glide through the intensities. If you own LELO SONA 2, you’ll love this one, but only upgrade if you have a sensitive clit and want the app compatibility.

Who Should Try It? If you love suction and want a high-end, high-power experience, you’re in the right place. This is an investment piece, but it won’t disappoint.

Who Can Skip It? If you have a large clit, don’t enjoy powerful suction, or want a budget device to try out before committing, this sucker doesn’t fit the bill. The ROMP Switch X is an excellent budget sucker, or you could try the LELO Sila for a larger nozzle.

You Can Buy It on the official LELO website for $149.

What Is the LELO SONA 3?

The SONA 3 is a clit sucker with app-compatibility, making it one of the few that work well for long-distance couples. It has numerous luxe features, like in-app settings that vary the intensity and rhythm for one-of-a-kind orgasmic experiences. It’s waterproof, body-safe, gorgeous, and versatile. It’s also pricey. But for the right demographic, this is a must-buy.

How Do I Use the LELO SONA 3?

From setup to post-orgasmic snoozing, it’s quick and easy to learn how to use the LELO SONA 3. After unboxing, charge it. It took me only an hour and twenty minutes to charge it, and then it lasted fifteen hours and fifteen minutes on the first setting. Yes, you read that right. This sucker can go all day.

The device charging

Next, wash the SONA 3 with warm water and antibacterial soap. Grab water-based lube (or the sample packet of lube included in the box) and place some all around the nozzle and your clit. Use the middle button to power on the device and then use the plus and minus buttons to venture through the intensity levels. You can use brief presses to go through settings individually or hold it down to glide up and down with the SmoothRise technology. Briefly pressing the middle button will take you through the rhythms.

When you’re finished, wash SONA 3 again and store her in the pretty little storage bag. There’s no need to charge this product frequently, as the battery lasts nearly forever.

My Personal Experience

I’ve had many experiences with the SONA line from LELO. And I’ve yet to be disappointed, thanks to the top-of-the-line craftsmanship, elegant unboxing, and consistently usable app. I recently tried the LELO SONA 3 Cruise and was excited to see how this compared. On its face, they are the same, minus the Cruise Control feature that allows you to grind into the toy without the motor shorting out.

And I was happy to find that I didn’t miss the Cruise Control capability because the power surge feels as unsettling as the shortage does, and both make it hard for me to climax. I press toys into me as I orgasm, and it is annoying to have the motor give way right as I’m nearing orgasm. If that happens to you, getting the SONA 3 Cruise may be worth it. However, I prefer the SONA 3 without the Cruise Control because I find the jump in power equally as jarring as the power shorting out. Both take me away from the edge. The SONA 3 had the best of all worlds, since it never shorted while I used it.

LELO SONA 3 seen from the side

The stimulations were nothing short of indulgent. No thud, no buzz, no mechanical grinding; just smooth suction. Even though it’s touch-free stimulation, suction can get overstimulating for me quickly because I’m extra sensitive. But the smoothness of this suction helped mitigate that.

One thing I noticed is that the battery life was astounding. It not only beats every other suction toy I can remember using, but it also beats the other LELO products I own. It lasted fifteen hours on the first setting, but the battery died much quicker on the higher settings.

Although this clit sucker is the ultimate in comfort and extravagance, it can feel a little dry if you don’t use lube. It sounds strange, since the SONA 3 provides touch-free stimulation, but lube is even more essential with suction. It’s a non-negotiable that puts this experience in a league of its own.

Packaging

Yes, I love that LELO packaging. It’s giftable and gorgeous. Couldn’t be better!

The packaging

Design

Even though I open one or more sex toys each week, I audibly gasped when unboxing this because it is that pretty. For some reason, the white toy in an all-black box gave me tuxedo, red-carpet vibes. It’s so striking, and the colors are spot on.

The nozzle design is best for pinpoint-style stimulation, but it’s not too small for average-sized clits. The rim is comfortable and it’s easy to hold, even if you’ve applied lube (and you should!).

LELO SONA 3

Material

The combination of ABS plastic and body-safe silicone has never looked so good. Additionally, it is waterproof, making cleaning a breeze and adding to its versatility.

Stimulations

This is as good as suction stimulation gets. It starts gently, allowing for teasing and edging, and builds into a formidable rumble that will shake you to your very core. The suction has an almost vibration-like quality to it; that’s how rumbly it is. Nearly anyone who enjoys the sensation of suction will be able to find a pleasurable setting with this bad boy. It brings all the power you can handle, minus the thuddy, mechanical feeling you may have experienced from lesser suckers.

Me testing the noise level using a decibel meter

Sound Level

The website stated the noise wouldn’t rise above 60 decibels. When I tested it, it ranged from 38 to 51. It’s quieter than expected, considering its power, and nearly noiseless once it is positioned correctly.

Build Quality and Dimensions

The LELO SONA 3 is palm-sized and portable. Since this clit sucker comes with a storage bag, the dimensions make it perfect for travel (You can see how the form factor compares to some of my other clit suckers in the image below). The build quality is chef’s kiss. I dare you not to display it. You won’t be able to hide it away.

The App

The LELO app is every bit as luxurious to use as the SONA 3 herself. If you haven’t already done so, download the app and create an account. Then, turn on the device. Once you’re in the app, it will walk you through the basic, easy-to-follow steps to pair the toy. After that, you can use the app to control the toy without having to find the buttons. Plus, you have access to two extra settings, OUT OF CONTROL and FINISH ME OFF (demonstrated in the image below). These two settings are essentially AI-powered chaos, but people who enjoy surprise and rhythmic variation will likely enjoy them.

You can also create your own patterns in the app or control the toy manually. You can craft a playlist, read articles about sex, and peruse new LELO products. It’s fun without being overwhelming and comprehensive without being too much. The app is excellent, and I have never had trouble with connectivity.

Me testing the LELO app

However, I had one issue. I wish that you could turn off the twenty-minute automatic shutoff. It’s one of my pet peeves. I like to (and must) take my time, and a timer makes me feel rushed, no matter how long the timer is. In the app, you can change the twenty-minute shutoff to a thirty-minute shutoff, but this isn’t always long enough for what I need.

Ease of Use

For a suction device with this much versatility, this sucker is easy to use. As you can see in the image below, it features a three-button interface that is simple to understand, and the app guides you through the pairing process quickly. There are no pain points to learning how to use the SONA 3, and it’s easy to clean.

Versatility

Although the LELO SONA 3 has only one function, it’s an incredibly versatile device. This clit sucker can do it all.  You can connect long-distance thanks to the Love Bridge on the phone app with a long-distance partner, bring it into the tub or shower, or use it during penetrative sex. It’s quiet, discreet, and long-lasting. It works as well for quickies as it does for tantra. However, this clit sucker only sucks clits, so if you don’t like that, get a vibrator instead.

Warranty and Support

LELO covers the SONA 3 with a one-year warranty. Keep your receipt, and if something goes wrong, you can document it and expect a replacement. Beyond that, the company covers it with a ten-year quality guarantee, which is a generous amount of support for a long-lasting device.

Minor Issues I Found During Testing

There was not much to complain about with the LELO SONA 3. The price tag will dissuade some from purchasing it, but beyond that, the only notable problem is that the small nozzle might not accommodate the largest-sized clits. And lastly, you can’t turn off the automatic shutoff, which makes me feel rushed, but may not pose a problem for fast masturbators.

Alternatives to the LELO SONA 3

LELO SONA 2 Cruise

The SONA 2 Cruise was the earlier model, and two of the major upgrades it’s missing are app compatibility and the SmoothRise technology. If you don’t mind the lack of the app, it’s a stellar clit sucker to try. It is more powerful than the LELO SONA 3, but only slightly. The aesthetic is similar between the two versions, but there aren’t ridges on the back of the SONA 2, making it slipperier and more difficult to hold after lube application. It costs $159 when not on sale.

LELO SONA 3 Cruise

The SONA 3 and SONA 3 Cruise are the same except for the Cruise Control, which is a feature that prevents the motor from shorting out if you press the toy into your body during climax. If you can live without the Cruise Control, you’ll save quite a bit. The SONA 3 Cruise retails for $180, making it more expensive than the SONA 3.
