Since there is no manual, I reached out to Lovehoney to find out how they recommend cleaning the Bondage Boutique Under Mattress Restraint. They recommended handwashing to ensure the longevity of the toy. It makes sense, too, since the metal parts will make a lot of noise and potentially cause damage to your washer and dryer.
Pro Tip: If you refuse to handwash them and decide to risk running them through the washer, it’s a good idea to get a garment bag so that you don’t end up with one big knot.
How To Use Them?
To wash the restraints first, use warm water and gentle laundry detergent. Then, remove your mattress from your bed, place it in the most comfortable configuration depending on your flexibility, and adjust the straps so that each one is the correct length based on which size of bed you own. Lastly, replace the mattress. Voila! That’s it. Setup is a breeze with most mattresses.
Then, you can tuck the cuffs under the mattress for easy storage or pull the comforter on top to cover them. Now, no one will know what you’re up to!
My Personal Experience
My bedroom has a king-sized bed, but it’s not a regular bed. I have a Sleep Number bed because my partner and I prefer very, very different things in mattresses. I would be fine sleeping on a hardwood floor; he wants the fluffiest, softest mattress to envelop him in a cloudlike embrace. So, we got a specific bed to help prevent sleep-deprivation-related resentment.
Sleep Number mattresses are bolted to the frame, so I was concerned whether these under-mattress restraints would work for my bed since mine would be more of a pain than most.
Ease Of Use
It was slightly more challenging to snake the restraints around the bolts, but it was doable. I don’t have a footboard on the end of my bed, which made the process much simpler. However, if I did, the project might have taken about an hour to get the bed apart before using the restraints. You can do it, but it won’t be as convenient if you’re not using a traditional mattress.
On the king-sized bed, they fit but only at the maximum extension. It could be because my straps lost some slack due to the complicated mattress, so the straps would probably work equally well on a super-king. They may not fit on a super-king-sized Sleep Number bed if you’re short or not very flexible. Further, they worked on the double, queen, and twin beds without any problem.
Pro Tip: Where you put the restraints depends on how comfortable you want your sub to be. If you place them with two coming out each side of the bed, that will leave your partner spread wide open—which might be precisely what you’re in the mood for.
Comfort
If you want a more comfortable introduction to bondage, put two out of the top and two out of the bottom, which will have your sub’s hands over their head but allow their feet to be somewhat together. Part of the fun of under-the-bed restraints is trying several positions to see what you like the best!
