Butt plugs are one sex toy that’s universally adored, pleasurable for nearly all bodies, and yet they’re still woefully underhyped. They can add a jolt of pleasure to partnered sex or solo pleasure, and they’re more tech-oriented and modern than ever.
If you’re wondering what your sex life is missing, it might just be a butt plug.
Below, in a very particular order, are all the best butt plugs. To get straight to the point, the best of the best is the b-Vibe Rimming Plug. It stands the test of time and consistently delivers unique sensations that outclass its competition. Yet, since butt joy is so subjective, other entries are worth considering based on your body, anal experience, goals, and preferences.
Some changes have occurred since our last ranking, including newcomers to the list: LELO SURFER 2 and Lovense Lush Anal. Let’s get into which is the best anal plug to help you come from behind.
Test Winner: b-Vibe Rimming Plug

Budget Pick: Lovehoney Butt Tingler

App-Controlled: Lovense Hush 2

Meet The Tester
Hi, I’m Angela Kempf, a sex writer and product tester by day, and someone who can’t take anything seriously also by day. I love to try new things, both inside and outside of the bedroom, and I take novelty and pleasure seriously. I’m committed to stigma-reduction, and I love inclusive toys.
Integrity is important to us here at My Sex Toy Guide. We buy each and every review sample with our own money, and we never accept free products in exchange for a positive review. We also want to be transparent about our business model. While we depend on affiliate commissions, we would never give a favorable review to a product just because it offers a higher payout. Every item on this list is included for one very reason: it’s genuinely among the very best.
How We Picked the Products
With most types of sex toys (and this one is no exception) there are typically quite a few products that are “good enough,” a few that have serious flaws, and a few that stand out. Our goal in these roundups is to identify those standouts.
We would like to be clear, though, that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with buying a “good enough” toy if there is something about it that catches your fancy. We’re bringing objective reviews and analysis, but sex and sex toys are subjective, and if there’s a particular plug that you want in your butt, you should absolutely go with that!
On to the reviews. We started by surveying reviewers, researchers, and other staff here at My Sex Toy Guide to see which products and features they prioritized. We narrowed the field to about three dozen butt plugs, ordered them, and started the testing process.
Each tester ranked each of these criteria on a 0-100 scale:
- Design: A gently tapered tip makes insertion easier and safer. The narrow tip goes in relatively easily, and then the gradual widening allows your sphincter to stretch slowly as you ease the rest of the plug in. A flared base is essential for any type of anal toy; it prevents the toy from being “sucked in” (orgasm contractions are very strong!). A stuck toy can mean an expensive and potentially embarrassing trip to the ER, and no one wants that.
- Build Quality: The composition of your sex toy is always important, but even more so when it is going to be used internally. We looked for body-safe materials that could be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized. Silicone was our preferred choice for those reasons as well as its soft, silky texture. Stainless steel and borosilicate glass are also decent choices for butt plugs, but their rigidity can feel challenging for folks new to this type of play.
- Stimulation: While some of our tested toys, and even some of our winners, rely on their size and shape for stimulation, we also looked at quite a few vibrating butt plugs. Our overall winner, the b-Vibe Rimming Plug, is unique in that it simulates the feel of rimming (like many clitoral stimulation models are designed to feel like cunnilingus).
- Settings: The more, the better! Variety is fun, and especially with anal play, it’s important to be able to start low and slow. We also gave higher ratings to vibrating butt plugs that were easy to control, since most of us are not able to see behind us!
- Versatility: Butt plugs really have one main purpose, but we did give higher scores to toys that had enough patterns, settings, and choices to offer a few different ways to play.
- Special Features: The models we tested ranged from basic to super deluxe, and here’s where we gave extra points to the butt plugs that offered extra features. Some of the bells and whistles we appreciated included smartphone app control, unique vibration patterns, and dual motors.
- Ease of Use: It’s no fun to be fumbling blindly behind you! We looked for butt plugs that offered user-friendly controls, including responsiveness, button placement, and ergonomics.
- Power: We generally prefer rechargeable sex toys, since they are user-friendly and Earth-friendly. We also evaluated the ratio of charging time to run time, since we want to spend more time enjoying our toys than maintaining them.
- Price & Value: Everyone’s budget is different and you are the ultimate arbiter of what you can spend, but we looked at what products at different price points offered compared to others in the same range.
We scored each sample on these criteria, and then calculated a final score based on weighted metrics: Design 15%, Build Quality 15%, Stimulation 15%, Settings 15%, Versatility 10%, Special Features 10%, Controls 10%, Power 5%, and Price 5%.
All testers submitted detailed, written reports in addition to numerical scores. In addition, we looked at reviews and user feedback from major adult retailers and sex toy forums. After many hours of testing and analysis, we are confident that these are the best butt plugs on the market!
1. b-Vibe Rimming Plug: Our Test Winner!
Why I love the b-Vibe Rimming Plug:
The b-Vibe Rimming Plug is easily the best butt plug of the lot. It’s $160, yet it’s worthy of the expense, and you can’t do any better for that price. The b-Vibe brand offers a line of Rimming Plugs in various sizes and colors.
What makes the sensation stand out is that rows of beads swirl around the neck, offering an experience that feels a little like rimming. Many anal toys ignore the nerve-packed anal rim, but this one does not make that mistake.
Let’s be clear: everything b-Vibe makes is top-notch. The company’s focus is on helping people explore anal play safely. This isn’t a company that encourages you to dive willy-nilly into the deep side of the pool without swimming lessons.
They have anal training and toy-based stretchers to help you slowly and safely gear up for anal sex or just get more out of your butt, pleasure-wise. The products feel like they’re made for your health and pleasure, and they can take the intimidation out of getting to know your anus.
The Rimming Plug specifically is my favorite. It comes with a remote control, simplifying the process of adjusting the settings mid-playtime, though it’s not app-compatible. You can give the Rimming Plug to your partner for surprising twists and turns of stimulation. It’s versatile yet straightforward, powerful yet accessible for people of all anal experience levels.
If you balk at the two-hour charge to one hour of use ratio, I can promise you won’t balk at the power. It’s intense, and I noted during my testing that it indeed felt somewhat like a rim job. Better yet, anyone will enjoy it: you don’t need a P-spot to take full advantage of the pleasure. Just choose your size (between Petite, 2, and XL), and get started!
Minor issues I found during testing:
The drawback of this test winner is that it’s not waterproof. I don’t know about you, but anal toys are things I like to scrub with abandon. With a splash-proof toy, I have to rein in my enthusiasm a bit and take care not to submerge the Rimming Plug. The cleaning could be easier, but that’s the price you pay (in addition to the actual price) for an anal toy with sensations unlike any other.
This also won’t work for someone who wants an app-compatible butt plug.
If you want to see what the b-Vibe Rimming Plug looks like and how to use it, please watch our unboxing and demonstration video below:
Features:
- Material: Silicone
- Insertable Length: 3.9″
- Diameter: 1.4″ (widest point)
Pros:
- Incredibly stimulating rimming recreation.
- Multiple rimming and vibration patterns.
- The tapered tip enhances easy insertion.
- Convenient remote control.
- The all-silicone body feels cozy.
- USB-rechargeable anal toy.
Cons:
- This vibrating butt plug is not waterproof – only splash-proof.
- It’s not whisper-quiet as marketed.
2. Lovehoney Butt Tingler: Budget & Beginner Pick!
Why I love the Lovehoney Butt Tingler:
It doesn’t get any better than the Lovehoney Butt Tingler. For less than $40, you get a body-safe, beginner-sized anal plug that is ready to get your feet (among other body parts) wet.
It reaches 3.5” inside, plenty of room to target a P-spot or put pleasurable pressure against the back wall of your vagina. It is slim and shaped so that it is easy as pie when you insert it for the first time. You can work up to it quickly, with a finger and some lube, so that you’re wearing the Lovehoney Butt Tingler comfortably in no time at all.
I noted that the features are pared down compared to other products on this list, but not as much as I was expecting at this price point. Three speeds and seven patterns give you stimulations to play with and enough versatility to have a closer look at what you enjoy. What’s most shocking is that it’s waterproof, making cleaning a breeze and allowing you to have some shower fun.
The design is delightfully svelte, well-made for something so affordable. It looks nothing like the dodgy products I bought in my youth, the tacky, sticky, bacteria-hoarding anal vibes. This is made from body-safe silicone, and the exterior is relatively seamless. Further, the circumference is slim, closer to a finger than a dildo. It’s the perfect starter for your backdoor, both in size and price.
Minor issues I found during testing:
For the price, you don’t hear me complaining. But this little butt plug just won’t work well for people who want extreme size or stimulation, and it won’t be the ideal choice for someone who loves high-end features.
It’s also not rechargeable, so keep those AAAs handy.

You can read the Lovehoney Butt Tingler full review here.
Features:
- Material: Silicone
- Insertable Length: 3.5″
- Circumference: 3.5″
Pros:
- The tapered tip promotes easy insertion.
- The solo button makes it easy to control
- The silicone felt cozy and soft.
- Affordable price tag.
Cons:
- The more experienced users will have to look elsewhere.
- It’s battery-powered – a rechargeable battery would’ve been better.
3. Lovense Hush 2: Best App-Controlled!
Why I love the Lovense Hush 2:
The Lovense Hush 2 is the perfect follow-up purchase to the Lovehoney Butt Tingler, and they are shaped and designed very similarly. If you love the Butt Tingler but want more, you are ready to graduate to the Lovense Hush 2, a feature-filled, durable, tech-leaning investment butt plug. You’ll be blown away by its power and quickly fall for its intuitive design, rechargeability, and comfortable shape.
But what I love the most about the Lovense Hush 2 is its app compatibility. The Lovense Remote app is hard to compete with, and it adds a layer of versatility that is straight-up addictive. They have one of the best apps for sex toys that you can find.
You can do just about anything once Hush 2 is paired, including syncing the sensations to a sexy playlist, creating unique patterns, and connecting with other users. There’s also the option of letting a long-distance partner control the vibrations remotely.
The Lovense Hush 2 is wearable, so you could put it in during a nap and use the app to wake you with vibrations. Its wearability also lends itself well to tantric play, public play, and more. I promise, there’s no better errand buddy than this butt plug.
Put it in and leave it for hours of teasing fun, or wear it out for a date with your loved one. You can use your phone to discreetly switch up the sensations. Will this make for an unforgettable date night? You bet your butt (plug) it will!
I also think that Lovense Hush 2 would work well as a first-time butt plug, if you’re all in on anal sensations. There are several sizes to choose from, so you can start small or go big. Either way, it’s a guaranteed crowd pleaser.
The larger the size you choose, the more battery life the vibe has, but even the smallest version will give you no less than two hours of anal bliss. And I was surprised that it was quieter than I expected, given the significant power it provides.
You can sync this with other Lovense products for tech-driven orgasms for both you and your partner. Or you could sync them to your favorite adult media and games. Speaking of games, pleasure is gamified in the app, adding extra motivation to your next game of Sudoku.
Last but not least, this is the best butt plug for cammers I have found, since you can easily allow your audience to temporarily control the vibrations when they tip a certain amount. This toy is compatible with some of the most-visited camming sites, like Chaturbate and Stripchat. What could be more fun than monetizing your pleasure? This butt plug could pay for itself.
Minor issues I found during testing:
The price is not a drawback, in my humblest opinion, because of how much versatility it offers and the way mine has lasted forever. You get more than what you pay for with this one.
But it’s not an ideal choice for someone who doesn’t want to use an app or needs prostate targeting specifically. If you have iffy WiFi, my advice is to choose a more analog butt plug.
If you want to see what Lovense Hush 2 looks like and how to use it, please watch our unboxing and demonstration video below:
Features:
Pros:
- The highest-rated app-controlled butt plug.
- Available in multiple sizes.
- Endless customization options.
- It’s compatible with our favorite sex toy app, the Lovense Remote app.
- The USB-rechargeable Hush 2 has an impressive battery life.
- Relatively quiet.
Cons:
- Overreliance on the mobile app.
- A solid internet connection is needed to enjoy all the features.
4. b-Vibe Snug Plug 2: Best Wearable Butt Plug!
Why I love the b-Vibe Snug Plug 2:
The b-Vibe Snug Plug 2 is a more uncomplicated butt plug, perfect for those whose priority is ease of use. You won’t find vibrations here, but sometimes, merely the addition of pleasant pressure is enough.
It’s weighted, so you won’t forget that the Snug Plug 2 is there. The feeling of fullness is unparalleled, and sometimes, the absence of vibrations allows you to enjoy the sensation longer. There’s no numbness, and you won’t be tempted to adjust the sensations during partnered sex.
Once you insert it, there’s nothing more to do except enjoy the sensations and recognize how much pleasure its presence adds. It’s the set-it-and-forget-it of butt plugs.
But what makes Snug Plug 2 the best wearable is its tiny neck. Seasoned butt plug enthusiasts already know, but that thin neck can make all the difference between a butt plug you could wear all day and one that makes you feel tired and sore after thirty minutes. I found that this neck hits the right combination of flexible and durable, making it even more comfortable for longer-term use.
The b-Vibe Snug Plug 2 is not the most affordable on this list, but it’s close. It’s under $60, and that’s a steal for the comfort, stimulation, and durability you can expect from this backdoor champion. Great for BDSM, date night, or just a little extra pleasure during partnered play, this b-Vibe Snug Plug 2 will delight people of any gender.
Expect a subtle but inescapable sensation, something that can push you over the edge with ease. I found that the weight is more considerable than most others on this list, bringing constant but unobtrusive awareness to my backside.
Snug is the perfect name for this sex toy because it stays in place. Once inside, you don’t worry about it slipping out, thanks to the significant flare between the neck and the plug. Further, it’s silent, so there’s nothing more discreet you could wear in public.
I found that the flared base was thin and comfortable during sitting, too, though it’s always a good idea to avoid metal chairs or anything that could make a loud noise in public while you wear it. And with this shape of butt plug, you want to use water-based lube, and plenty of it.
Minor issues I found during testing:
The biggest drawback to this butt plug is that insertion is not straightforward for newbies. Taking time to prep your anus with a well-lubed finger, allowing yourself to relax and become fully aroused, and using more lube than you thought was possible or wise is key to making it work.
Further, after several uses, you may notice that it has absorbed a smell and needs a deep cleaning.
If you want to see what b-Vibe Snug Plug 2 looks like and how to use it, please watch our unboxing and demonstration video below:
Features:
Pros:
- Available in multiple sizes.
- The extended neck enhances the wearer’s comfort.
- Foolproof design – easy to use.
- The waterproof plug is easy to clean.
- Perfect for extended wear.
Cons:
- Snug Plug 2 is slightly tricky to insert.
- No vibrations.
5. njoy Pure Plug: Best Metal Butt Plug!
Why I love the njoy Pure Plug:
One look at the njoy Pure Plug and you’ll see why this makes the list of the best. It’s a beaut, Clark. It’s kind of funny that try as we might, we simply can’t improve upon the gorgeous, sleek design of a stainless-steel butt plug like this one.
Plus, it’s gorgeous, and it’s wearable, perfect for a date night or extra pleasure during intercourse. And you can store it in the gorgeous box it came in, ensuring you wash it after each use, of course.
Aesthetically, from start to finish, njoy Pure Plug delivers. The box is gorgeous, the unboxing is an event, and the metal butt plug itself is elegant. Better yet, it stays that way for the long haul. I have had mine for years, and it’s still as attractive as the day I unboxed it, thanks to the easy-to-clean material and seamless design. All metal butt plugs are pretty, so what makes this one stand out?
For starters, the njoy Pure Plug series comes in a variety of sizes, including small, medium, and large. You don’t have to have nerves of steel to have a butt full of steel, thanks to the forgiving range of sizes. Start small and work your way up the size spectrum, if you like.
This plug is heavy, giving a pleasant, constant fullness sensation. And, unlike other butt plugs, this simple unadorned accessory is perfect for people of any gender. It doesn’t have a jewel at the back or seams. It will work for anyone with a butthole, and that’s just about everyone. Plus, the little finger hole makes removing it a breeze (no digging around necessary).
Further, I found that the shape is more tapered than others like the b-Vibe Snug Plug 2, giving you a gentler insertion and removal experience. The thoughtful angle makes this toy more likely to rub up against your P-spot, or if you don’t have one, it will add pressure to the back of your vaginal wall. It’s like magic.
It’s low maintenance, too. This is one of the very few sex toys I own that I can (and do) clean in the dishwasher or in a boiling pot of water. It’s no-fuss, forever.
Minor issues I found during testing:
This butt plug helps you put the pedal (anal pleasure) to the metal, but it’s not perfect. At $120, this isn’t affordable, and it’s somewhat pricy for the lack of features. Yet, the quality makes up for it, as this is something you could potentially keep for a lifetime.
Next, if you have large fingers like my partner does, they won’t fit in the removal ring, but you can still pinch your fingers together for easy retrieval.
If you want to see what the njoy Pure Plug looks like and how to use it, please watch our unboxing and demonstration video below:
Features:
Pros:
- A great weighted metal butt plug.
- It’s available in three sizes.
- The slim neck enhances long-term wear.
- Either gender can wear it.
- Stunning packaging.
- It’s easy to clean.
Cons:
- It doesn’t have vibrations
- The toy doesn’t come with a lube sample.
6. LELO SURFER 2: Best Unisex Butt Plug!
Why I love the LELO SURFER 2:
The LELO SURFER 2 is an app-compatible, body-safe wave of pleasure for your anus to surf. It offers the best of a lot of worlds: it’s tech-reliant, pretty, and body-safe. It’s also the most effective unisex butt plug I’ve come across. Let’s talk about why.
This gender-inclusive gem is one of the quietest on the list, making it perfect for discreet use. It’s comfortable, and the colors and design are modern and look equally great on anyone’s bum. There’s no pink heart jewel or phallic realism that would turn anyone off.
Butt plugs, in general, are excellent toys for trans people who may want to steer clear of penis or vaginal toys that may cause gender dysphoria. This butt plug is guaranteed to add pleasure and take the focus off activities that may not be as affirming.
I found that the shape and size fall firmly in the medium category, an excellent long-term buy for people of any gender. It’s not the smallest, so having a little anal experience is helpful, but it’s doable for newbies with patience.
The app compatibility adds versatility, and it includes modes that allow for truly hands-free pleasure. During testing, I noted that the LELO app was modern and intuitive, easing through the process of pairing the anal toy and creating your own pathways to pleasure.
The unboxing? Giftable AF. It comes with a luxurious storage bag, lube, and a charging cable—so you can begin nearly as soon as you unbox it.
You could share this with your partner, both use it (sterilizing it in between, of course), and you can enjoy it long-distance, as well. The LELO SURFER 2 is a multitasker, making it worth the hefty price of $120.
Minor issues I found during testing:
The main problem with the LELO SURFER 2 is that the power button (which doubles as the button for switching patterns) is internal and inaccessible once inserted.
This butt plug will work well for people of any gender—as long as they only plan on using it with the app.
If you want to see what LELO SURFER 2 looks like and how to use it, please watch our unboxing and demonstration video below:
Features:
- Material: Body-safe silicone and ABS plastic
- Size: 4.1 x 3.8 x 1.3”; 3” insertable
- Color: Black or cyber purple
- Mechanism: Anal vibration
- Weight: 2.5 oz
Pros:
- Giftable unboxing experience
- Waterproof, body-safe, luxury materials
- App-compatible, with creative features and long-distance capability
- Unisex design offers pleasure for all bodies
Cons:
- Expensive
- One-button control is on the internal portion of the vibrator
- Additional intensity levels are only available through the app
7. Lovense Lush Anal: Most Comfortable Butt Plug!
Why I love the Lovense Lush Anal:
The Lovense Lush Anal is the most comfortable butt plug on this list, according to me, someone who is prone to pain and familiar with discomfort. I didn’t grow up in the day of anal training; I grew up in the era of anal sex with no warm-up, no lube, truly the wild, wild west. I’m no stranger to uncomfortable anal sensations.
That’s why the Lovense Lush Anal was such an impressive butt plug. It’s the first butt plug everyone needs. Of course, you could go with the budget and beginner pick, but Lush Anal is genuinely the size and shape of my pinky, making it even smaller than the Lovehoney Butt Tingler. It couldn’t be any easier to insert, IMHO.
This little vibe is made for the long run. It’s durable, flexible, and body-safe, and you can plan to use it for years. Plenty of folks just like a little pizzazz in their azz; you don’t have to size up and prepare for anal sex. You can give a little buzz to your P-spot (if you have one) and keep things simple.
Lovense Lush Anal stays in place and is wearable for date night or during penetrative sex and other partner play. It has a pretty tiger’s eye LED light on the external tail that delivers a light show under the covers. It’s quiet and app-compatible, so you can use it long-distance and create patterns. Crucially, it has an external button, so that you can use it without the app. And the battery will last for hours on lower settings.
Minor issues I found during testing:
Okay, this girl is expensive. She retails for $259 but is often on sale for half that. That’s pretty spendy for someone who has no idea if they will enjoy it. Your best bet is to wait for a sale because she is worth it.
If you want to see what Lovense Lush Anal looks like and how to use it, please watch our unboxing and demonstration video below:
Features:
- Material: Silicone and electroplated plastic
- Size: 2.72” insertable length, .84” insertable width
- Color: Neon pink
- Mechanism: Anal vibration
- Weight: 2 ounces
Pros:
- Reliable app-compatibility
- Long battery life
- Versatile AF
- Small, thin, and easy to insert
- Giftable
- Excellent for livestreaming and camming
- Pleasurable for any gender
- Comfortable for long-term wear
Cons:
- Pricy for a first-time butt plug
Other Good Alternatives

But Why Should I Buy One?
Lots of people of all genders enjoy butt stuff. The anus and surrounding area is rich with nerve endings so stimulation can feel very good.
- People with prostates can enjoy intense pleasure when they pleasure the P-spot, and some people with prostates can achieve prostate orgasms.
- People with vulvas may be able to stimulate the A-spot (anterior fornix erogenous zone) with a butt plug; this dramatically increases arousal and lubrication, and can also lead to orgasm. Using a butt plug during penetrative intercourse makes the vagina feel tighter, which can feel good to both partners.
Also, if you are interested in expanding (so to speak) your anal repertoire, a beginner butt plug is a great start. Like any other set of muscles, the rectum and sphincter can be conditioned through gradual stretching.
When you play with butt plugs with incremental increases in diameter, you are getting your anus ready to take even larger anal toys, a fist, or a penis.
Choose butt plugs from our list and reviews, or you can purchase a training kit with different sizes.
How To Use A Butt Plug?
As you are most likely aware, no butt is able to naturally produce lubrication. Lube is essential for any anal play.
This is not just about comfort, although that’s a good enough reason on its own; without lube, you will likely experience at least micro-tears, which can lead to infection or other complications.
Water-based lube is the gold standard and is compatible with all sex toys, but it can sometimes dry out quickly. Oil-based lube (or body-safe food-grade oils) is safe to use with most silicone sex toys as well as stainless steel or borosilicate glass, but is not safe with some plastic toys or with latex condoms. Silicone lube is not compatible with silicone sex toys.
Communication is important with any kind of sex, of course, and it really matters when you and your partner are playing with butt plugs.
- First, the anus is very sensitive and not as stretchy as certain other body parts, so the potential for discomfort is high.
- Second, when your partner is inserting a sex toy and not their own body, there is less sensory feedback for them to observe, so using words is absolutely necessary.
Here are some basic tips for butt plug play:
- If you are new to anal play, start with a butt plug that has some softness and flexibility. We recommend silicone. We recommend against “jelly” or other porous toys, since they cannot be thoroughly cleaned and they may emit microplastics and phthalates.
- Apply lube to the toy and your body before any play starts, and be prepared to reapply as needed.
- Prepare your body and mind with a warm bath, your favorite music, some adult content, or whatever else helps you feel relaxed and receptive.
- The receiving partner is in charge. Full stop.
- Start by rubbing and gently pressing the well-lubed tip of the butt plug against the opening of the anus. Take a deep breath and slowly increase the pressure. It may help to bear down as if you were relieving yourself.
- Minor discomfort is not uncommon, especially if you are new to anal play. Take a break or call it off if you feel anything beyond minor discomfort, though. Your butt will still be there tomorrow or the next day, and you can try again.
Never move the toy from the anus to the vagina without thoroughly cleaning it first. This is not safe and can lead to vaginal infections. In practical terms, this means that if you think you’ll want knocking at both the front and back door, you should have two vibrators available.
Happy vibing!
Angela
