The 8 Best Shower Sex Positions | Plus Safety Tips & Advice

Featured image

Opinions are divided on shower sex. It looks incredible in rom-coms with steamed shower doors and sexy wet hair, but it can quickly turn uncomfortable. Still, it gives you more privacy if you’re a parent, plus it’s exciting, so it’s worth trying at least once.

To help you get started on your wet journey, I’ve prepared a list of sex in shower sex positions to steam up your sex life – pun intended.

But first, here are a few shower sex tips to make your shower sex session hot and safe:

  • Invest in a non-slippery shower mat: The shower floor is slippery, and a non-slip mat gives your foot traction, saving you from a trip to the emergency room. You know what they say – better safe than sorry. You don’t want to worry about an accident when you should relax and have a fantastic time.
  • Bring waterproof sex toys: Most high-quality toys are waterproof today. But if you don’t have one, don’t worry. The showerhead is excellent for stimulating various erogenous zones! You can also use toys with suction cups for hands-free play!
  • Be smart about foreplay: It’s challenging to get aroused in the shower for two reasons: there’s very little space, and natural lubrication is difficult when water gets in the way. But you can get creative with foreplay and start with a sensual soap massage. If you need some help with penetration, use silicone lube (oil-based lubricant can make things slippery).
  • Point the shower head away from your head: Ideally, try to angle it so it hits your chest or legs. Having water constantly hitting your face is a big turn-off.
  • Don’t forget STIs: While shower sex washes away all the dirt, it doesn’t protect you from STIs. Use a condom and check for accidental slippage.

Are you ready to get all kinds of wet? Let’s go!

1. Carry Me Baby

Carry Me Baby Shower Sex Position

We’ve all seen those movies where a couple rushes into the shower, not even stopping to remove their clothes. Wouldn’t it be cool if your partner could just pick you up and carry you there? With the Carry Me Baby position, you can move from the bedroom to the bathroom without awkward pauses.

The shower might seem small, but it’s actually helpful because you can lean back against the wall and make it easier for your partner. It does take some strength, but it’s all about the excitement in that moment. Just make sure to use a non-slip mat to keep things safe.

How To Do It

  1. Lie on the bed and have your partner lean over to pick you up.
  2. Wrap your legs around their waist and your arms around their neck.
  3. Then, slide into the position and let them carry you to the shower.

2. Standing Doggy

Standing Doggy Shower Position

If missionary is a classic bedroom position, the standing doggy style has the same reputation among shower sex enthusiasts. It’s one of my favorites as it’s easy to get into and allows for G-spot stimulation, setting the scene for an intense orgasm.

But please remember to communicate when in this position. With water dripping and facing away from each other, it might be difficult for your partner to spot any discomfort. Don’t be afraid to be vocal about your needs, and ideally, discuss boundaries beforehand. Even shower sex positions like the doggy style aren’t to everyone’s taste, and that’s okay. (You can find more standing sex positions in this article).

Pro Tip: Use a shower head to stimulate your clitoris while your partner thrusts. Start with warm water and then experiment with different temperatures.

How To Do It

  1. Stand with legs slightly spread and rest your hands on the shower wall or bar attachment for extra support
  2. Then, lean forward and have your partner enter you from behind

3. Pile Driver

Pile Driver Shower Sex Position

Are you a shower sex expert? Then you should try the Pile Driver position, as this one demands excellent balance, stamina, and coordination. But it’s still a whole lot of fun despite these challenges.

Start by practicing this position in the bedroom. Once you feel confident, take it to the shower—it might even become more exciting there. Additionally, if you’re concerned about neighbors or roommates hearing, the noise of the running water in the shower can help keep things discreet.

How To Do It

  1. Point the shower head away and lie down on your back.
  2. Get into a yoga plow pose, lifting your legs towards your head.
  3. Have your partner squat over you and slide into the position.
  4. If there’s nothing he can grab onto (not the shower curtain!), you can start with a variation, which requires him to go down on his knees and face away from you. It’s not the most comfortable position, but safety first.

4. Wheel Barrow

Wheel Barrow Shower Position

Remember how you used to play wheelbarrow as a kid? Wheel barrow is a position that draws inspiration from our childhood game but makes it a lot more exciting with extra sensations. If you’re a fan of deep penetration, this one will hit all the right spots.

The Wheel Barrow will test your physical abilities and teamwork skills. If you don’t communicate well with your partner, you can quickly lose balance, so you must always work together. It can be a great challenge if you want to bond with your partner and explore your sexual preferences.

How To Do It

  1. Get into a downward dog position and have your partner stand between your legs.
  2. He then picks you up, holding you by the hips.
  3. Wrap your legs around your partner’s waist for better balance.

5. The Caboose

The Caboose Shower Sex Position

If you’re lucky enough to have a spacious shower, there’s no reason you shouldn’t try the Caboose. It’s one of my favorite shower sex positions, and while it might not offer an extra deep penetration, it sure deepens your connection. It requires you to snuggle with your partner and allows you to engage in intimate gestures such as neck kisses and hugs. There’s nothing hotter than Caboose in combination with a steamy shower.

Since this position favors slower movement, it’s perfect for focusing on your clitoris. Use a shower head or a waterproof toy to stimulate different erogenous zones.

Pro Tip: Have your partner massage your body with soap before getting into the Caboose.

How To Do It

  1. Both partners start with facing the same direction.
  2. The receiving partner sits in front of the penetrating partner with knees slightly bent.
  3. The receiver slides into the penis owner’s lap.
  4. The vulva owner leans backward, and the penis owner rests their back against the wall.

6. Ballet Dancer

Ballet Dancer Shower Position

Shower sex in movies often looks perfect, but real-life shower play can be a bit awkward. Still, certain positions, like the ballet dancer, can make the experience incredibly sensual and exciting.

In this face-to-face position, you can keep looking into each other’s eyes, which is super hot and really turns up the heat. [1] You can also add passionate kisses and back-scratching to make it feel even more intense.

How To Do It

  1. Both partners stand facing each other.
  2. The vagina owner lifts one leg and wraps it around their partner’s hip while placing their arms on his back.
  3. The giving partner holds their leg and puts the other hand on their waist for extra support.
  4. If you have a shower chair, the receiving partner can rest one foot on it for more comfort.

7. Standing Oral Sex

Standing Oral Sex In The Shower

I like that old saying about sex being messy when done right, though I know not everyone feels the same way. If you’re worried about cleanliness, trying oral sex while standing in the shower might help you relax. And if you’re shy about doing it where someone might see, the sound of running water can be a good cover-up, helping you feel more at ease.

Shower sex might seem limiting because you can’t dress up in something sexy, but you can still have fun with role-playing and explore being in charge or letting your partner lead. You could let your partner hold your hair and guide your movements. You can even make it practical by combining it with washing your hair if you’re in a hurry.

How To Do It

  1. One of the partners kneels before the other partner and goes down on them.
  2. Make sure water is away from your face.
  3. If you have a bathtub, the receiving partner can put one leg on the edge of the tub.

8. Mutual Masturbation

Mutual Masturbation In The Shower

What’s better foreplay than mutual masturbation? Mutual masturbation in the shower, of course! Whether you have a heavy discharge or don’t it like when your partner leaves a mess, shower sex takes care of this problem. Everything goes when water is involved – even if you’re on your period, you don’t have to say no to intimacy. Similarly, if anal penetration stresses you out because it can get messy, shower sex is excellent for conquering your fears.

You can start by washing each other’s bodies and avoiding touching each other’s genitals until you can’t help yourself anymore. Pay extra attention to your partner’s body – use soap or body lotion to increase sensations.

You can find more masturbation positions here.

 How To Do It

  1. Face each other and sit on the shower floor. Alternatively, do it standing if there isn’t enough space.
  2. Stimulate your partner’s genitals with your fingers or a waterproof sex toy.
