6 Missing Sex Toy Features, According to a Sex Toy Tester!

A man thinkingWhat makes a good sex toy? For me, it’s something with good tingles on the frenulum, as I can orgasm from that alone. For others, it can be adjustable prostate massagers or a silent clit sucker. But what are some practical features that are missing in today’s sex toys?

To investigate this further, I checked my inbox to see what readers have asked for. I also asked our Twitter/X followers and even people on Reddit. The research results became this article with the 6 most asked for sex toy features. Let’s check them out!

1. Hands-Free Clit Sucker

I found this nugget in a Reddit thread that was a treasure trove of missing sex toy features. One comment by Redditor archer2500 caught my attention:

“A low profile clit sucker. So a woman can use her toy during sex instead of holding a 1980s rotary phone against her body.”

Yep, you read that right – comparing today’s bulky clit suckers to those old-school, chunky rotary phones. It sparked a whole chat about how these intimate gadgets could do with a makeover, focusing on being discreet and easy to handle.

Jumping into the fray, tossaroundteddy couldn’t help but agree and shared a laugh about their own wrestle with the Satisfyer Pro 2 (image above). Effective? Sure. But trying to use it is like juggling a brick at the worst possible time. They gave a shoutout to brands working on slimming things down, showing that the industry is getting the memo.

Then there’s Effervesser, who threw in another cool idea: what about hands-free options, especially for folks who might struggle with holding onto things? A hands-free, portable, easy-to-use clit sucker sounds like a dream. Sex toys designers to aisle 6, please!

2. Sex Toys That Respond To Pleasure

Let’s take a step back to understand the issue: Today, everything is one-size-fits-all, and you must manually adjust a toy to your specific body type or pleasure mood. This is all fine and dandy for some, while others won’t find something they like. (Most emails are about mismatched toys and disappointing experiences.)

A women holding a bullet vibrator that uses AI to learn about what she like. She has a surprised face.

But picture this: a toy that automatically senses what you like and adjusts itself accordingly. Plus, it learns over time and introduces new sensations it think you enjoy. Examples could be a prostate massager or G-spot vibrator that, with the help of your body feedback, finds the sweet spot on its own. Or masturbation sleeves that learn to massage your penis by sensing how it reacts. Maybe it even helps you discover things you didn’t even know you liked!

It sounds a bit far out, but I believe we get here pretty soon with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning,

3. More Realistic Tongue Toys

Us men have a pretty good selection of oral sex toys (AutoBlow AI Ultra and Kiiroo Keon, to name a few), but vagina options are sadly lagging. There have been some recent improvements, one being the excellent Womanizer Next, but there’s still no product that mimics cunnilingus and analingus to such a degree that you think it’s a real human mouth.

A woman's mouth

A good product must be more than just a tongue; It must be a complete face you sit on. Part of the excitement about oral sex is feeling the lips, chin, and nose on the bottom region. Plus, it must have a warming feature and some kind of hands-free mechanism so you can use it in missionary and doggy positions. Calling all sex toy designers! I buy it ASAP if you make it happen!

4. Keep It Simple, Please!

The trend continues with more advanced products, which is great for customization but horrible for the customer experience. For example, we had toys that required videos or lengthy manuals to get started; usually, it was quick, but sometimes it took days. One product we never got to work (no names). We also receive many questions about using a particular toy. Plus, our how-to articles are some of our most popular.

I strongly believe the brands must provide an easier customer experience. Here are just a few ideas that would simplify things tremendously:

  • One button press to initiate the whole setup process. (No more lengthy steps)
  • Fewer vibration patterns out of the box (but the option to enable an advanced mode with more).
  • Fewer buttons and a simpler app interface. The list goes on and on.

Lovense Solace

Some companies have taken this to heart, most notably Lovense. Setting up Lovense Solace (image above) was a breeze compared to other masturbators. The company also simplified its app eco-system by reducing the amount of software, most notably by creating an umbrella camgirl app. Other manufacturers take notes!

5. Dildo with Lube Tube

The next one is from my inbox; a reader asked if they could buy a dildo with a built-in lubrication tube. I thought about it briefly but had never seen such a product. But what a brilliant idea! Today, you must stop the pleasure train to grab lube every time it dries up. Why not have an ergonomic button you can press? Or even better, a timer that automatically spills out the juice in intervals. I should patent this idea and make millions!

The packaging

I think the Big Shot is the closest you can find today. However, during our Big Shot dildo review, we found no instructions about the squirting mechanism or whether using lube would  clog up the internal parts, so please use it with caution.

6. Hands-Free Nipple Roller

This one is from the same Reddit thread as number one. Charlie-In-The-Box threw a curveball at the sex toy world with a brilliant idea: how about a toy that feels like rolling nipples between fingers? It’s a subtle yet genius suggestion that makes you go, “Why didn’t I think of that?”

Then, AppropriateSalt573 jumped in with a quirky twist – using a battery-powered rotary toothbrush to mimic this sensation. It might make you chuckle, but it’s actually a pretty clever hack. It gets you thinking: could this be the start of a whole new type of toy? With all the focus on pressure and intensity, the soft, rolling touch is still a path less traveled in the sex toy world. It’s a lightbulb moment for designers and a hopeful glimpse for those seeking a more personalized touch in their toys.

The next best thing would be the Honey Play Box Scioness. The flicking tongue plus the clit suction is such a deadly combination. I don’t want to go into much detail as that would ruin the fun for those interested. If you have questions, please read the Honey Play Box Scioness review we made here.

Happy vibing!
