LELO HUGO 2 Review: Best Prostate Massager in 2024?

Lelo Hugo 2Huge news in the Leloverse: LELO’s powerful HUGO prostate massager just got more power! And now it comes with a remote control or app capability so you can use it hands-free. I don’t have a prostate, but my partner does, and he volunteered to put it through the ringer.

Join me in this LELO HUGO 2 review as I relay his experience and whether it topped its predecessor.

Key Takeaways
4.6 out of 5 stars

From the moment I turned on the LELO HUGO 2 Remote, I knew it was a winner. It had so much power; I was floored. The shape also made it a truly hands-free toy. Once inserted, my partner could walk around with it and successfully wore it during penetrative sex. It’s not comfortable to sit on due to the design, but it’s not meant for public play. However, it’s perfect for those who want to be able to wear it during sex with their partner.

Overall, this is the most luxurious prostate and perineum massager my partner has ever tried. It’s versatile as can be, and the unboxing experience is unparalleled. If you want something hands-free and powerful, this is the best purchase you find today.

Who Is This For? Anyone with a prostate will enjoy the prostate massager, but Hugo 2 will delight anyone with a bum who wants a moderately-sized model with all the features. This is a mid-sized toy, perfect for those who have dabbled with prostate pleasure and want to take everything to the next level. This is the ultimate hands-free prostate and perineum massager in my humble opinion.

Who Is This Not For? If you are curious about learning more about prostate pleasure for the first time, you should start with a smaller, less expensive toy. The Lovehoney Butt Tingler would be a good place to start as Hugo 2 is best for people who are looking for an upgrade in both size and features. Those who want something designed for public play won’t love the HUGO 2, either, and will want to try the b-Vibe Snug Plug 2 instead.

You Can Buy It on the official LELO website for $179.

What Is LELO HUGO 2?

The LELO HUGO 2 is an upgraded sibling to the original LELO HUGO. This prostate and perineum massager has rumbly vibrations and noticeably more power than its predecessor. It’s giftable, gorgeous, waterproof, and a need—not a want—for someone who wants to upgrade their prostate playtime.

First Impressions and Features

Unboxing

LELO has a lock on the packaging. You should feel excited when their cardboard box lands on your doorstep because you are about to have an experience. What’s inside is gorgeous, and it couldn’t be more gorgeous. Everything has been packed with care so that it will arrive safely, nestled in foam, and protected until it arrives at your doorstep. If I had to mail myself somewhere, I would want LELO to package me.

The content of the box

Further, LELO’s packaging is gender-neutral, making it giftable for anyone, which is an important but occasionally neglected detail of some anal toys.

The LELO HUGO 2 Remote comes with everything you need to get started (you can also see the items in the image above):

  • A USB charging cable for the prostate and perineum massager

The LELO HUGO 2 has abundant yet not excessive features, including:

How To Use LELO HUGO 2?

The LELO HUGO 2 Remote takes a little time to learn how to use. After you charge and wash the toy, ensure you’re highly aroused, especially if you’ve never used a prostate massager before. Use lube and insert a finger or two into your anus, going as slowly as you need to. Taking deep breaths can help!

To use this toy at its easiest, most basic level, use the one-button function that’s located at the tip of the perineal massager. Holding this button down for a couple of seconds will turn the LELO HUGO 2 on or off, and pressing it briefly will take you through the default intensities and settings. You don’t have to get any more complicated than that if you don’t want to.

To go a step further, use the key to open the remote control and insert the included two-pack of batteries. Then, use the three buttons to control the settings. The remote can also be controlled with SenseMotion 1 or 2. SenseMotion 1 allows you to operate the remote by tilting it; when the remote is perpendicular to the floor, you have reached the maximum intensity. SenseMotion 2 gives you the option of moving or shaking the remote to increase the intensity, with faster motions resulting in more intense vibrations. Strangely, shaking the remote in SenseMotion 1 will dampen the vibrations somewhat.

The user manual

One nice feature of the remote is that it vibrates in sync with the toy. You can hand the remote off to a partner to let them control your experience, and they will be able to feel what sensations they’re sending your way. If you need to be more discreet, though, you can hold the middle button on the remote to turn these informational vibrations off.

LELO recently joined the ranks of companies with apps to control some of their toys. While the app is obviously not reverse-compatible with older LELO toys, I was a bit disappointed to learn that the HUGO 2 Remote is not compatible with the app. For that functionality, you would need to purchase the LELO HUGO 2, not the LELO HUGO 2 Remote. While the app won’t control this particular product, I did download it to see what else it has to offer. To get the app, go to the app store on your phone and search for “LELO.” It’s in the health and fitness section, even though it should probably be in the getting-down-to-business section.

After you download the app, opening it will bring you to the home page, which includes LELO’s latest articles, erotic stories, and sex accessories. At the bottom of the screen, you’ll see a book icon if you’d like to do more reading, whether fiction or non. The clock next to it is your history, a curious inclusion, but helpful if you like to revisit the same content time and again—less helpful if you like to keep your exploits private without having to clear your history each time. The next icon looks like a suction vibe, and the page is called “MyLELO Toy’s”. Here, you can see the list of compatible toys.

Pro tip: If you’re a beginner, we highly recommend you read this guide on how to use a prostate massager as well.

My Personal Experience

From the moment I turned on the LELO HUGO 2 Remote, I knew it was a winner. It had so much power; I was floored. At first, I thought it would have remote control as well as app capability. I quickly learned I was wrong.

Strangely, there are two versions of the LELO HUGO 2: one that comes with a remote control and one that does not. I received the LELO HUGO 2 with the remote control and found it easy to operate. If you get the version with the remote control, you cannot use the app. If you get the version with the app, it doesn’t come with a remote control. It’s an important distinction and one I found a bit confusing.

My partner found that this prostate massager was a cinch to use hands-free and was comfortable enough to use for marathon play sessions. However, the HUGO 2 Remote turned off after twenty minutes, which is a common battery-saving mechanism. Twenty minutes is a time I can’t argue with—it’s the toys that shut off after ten or fifteen that drive me up the wall.

Did I try it as a clitoral vibrator? You bet I did. This packs enough power to easily use on your clit. I even tried it as a rabbit vibrator. The inner arm is long enough to reach the G spot, and the perineum arm could potentially reach your clit at the same time. But when I tried it, I had to hold it in place. It’s not extremely flexible. Again, this is not what it was intended for, but if you’re hoping for a rabbit vibrator and a prostate massager, this will come close but it will only work depending on the size and shape of your anatomy. I’m not docking any points for this—I’m just thrilled I can use it as a backup clit vibe on the days my partner has left the LELO HUGO 2 unattended.

Packaging

10/10 packaging. It’s sleek, black, and ideal for gifting to people of any gender.

The packaging

Design

The website says that the toy has been redesigned from the original HUGO to accommodate more bodies, but the two toys look indistinguishable to my partner and me, save for one small marking.

The remote design was slightly less intuitive than I had hoped. If you hold the remote so the buttons are at the top, the button order goes plus, then function, then minus, which is backward from how I would expect. So, you’re pressing left to turn the toy up and turning the toy down by pressing right.

Lelo Hugo 2 and the remote control

However, most people may not hold the remote the way my partner and I do, so that won’t pose a problem for them. Further, you can’t control the motors separately using the remote, which is a bit of a bummer for anyone who doesn’t like the exact same intensity of vibration on their perineum as their prostate.

Material

The material is luxe, body-safe silicone paired with ABS plastic polished to a mirrorlike shine. It’s as smooth and soft as you could dream of. It’s gorgeous, waterproof, and easy to care for with minimal maintenance.

Stimulations

The stimulations on the LELO HUGO 2 are nothing short of rumbly. There isn’t the slightest hint of a buzz. The vibes start rumbly at the low end and stay rumbly even as you reach higher speeds.

My partner tried the patterns, but he, like me, prefers consistency to surprise and was most pleased with the continuous vibration.

Sound Level

LELO is one of the first brands I’ve seen put a noise level on their toy, which is helpful information for the discreet consumer. The website estimated that it would be under 60 decibels. When I tested it, it ranged between 37 and 57 decibels (image below).

Me measuring Hugo 2's sound level using a decibel meter

When I was testing the battery, I was surprised, nay shocked, that I couldn’t hear this rattling against the carpet when I re-entered the room. I had to touch it to make sure it was on. Once inserted, the noisiest part is the remote. If you need this toy to be discreet, don’t plan on using the remote. The remote vibrates along with the LELO HUGO 2 Remote, and since it isn’t muted by your body, it creates a bit of noise. You can hold the middle button down to disable these vibrations if needed.

Build Quality and Dimensions

The build quality is *chefs kiss*. Everything fits together perfectly, and though this toy is flexible, it’s not fragile.

The dimensions are ideal for intermediate prostate players. This is not a first-time toy, but that makes sense because it doesn’t have a first-time price tag. Building up with smaller butt plugs first is a good idea for your comfort and safety. (To get an idea about the dimensions, I snapped a photo of HUGO 2 next to all my other prostate massagers below).

Lelo Hugo 2 with all my other prostate massagers

Some anal toys have skinny necks to make them comfortable for longer-term play. The LELO HUGO 2 Remote does not, so you may not want to play all day. But the shape was very comfortable for an hour or so of fun.

The shape also made it a truly hands-free toy. Once inserted, my partner could walk around with it and successfully wore it during penetrative sex. It’s not comfortable to sit on due to the design, but it’s not meant to be worn for public play. However, it’s perfect for those who want to be able to wear it during sex with their partner.

Ease of Use

It will probably take you a little while to get fully accustomed to the LELO HUGO 2 Remote because it has so many features, but that’s all part of the fun. However, don’t expect this toy to become your go-to after the first use. Prostate massagers are for learning new gateways to pleasure for most people, so the learning curve is a feature, not a bug.

The device charging

Versatility

The remote makes the LELO HUGO 2 Remote exceptional for solo or partnered play. It’s excellent for people who don’t like to have to hunch over and reach any more than they must, and for people who want to play around with BDSM and power exchanges. It has a storage bag and is waterproof, perfect for beach vacations, shower sex, and indulging anywhere inside or outside of the bedroom.

The only addition that would make this more versatile would be including app compatibility. I’m not sure why LELO released one toy with only a remote control and a separate one with only an app control. Including both in one package would have made this unbeatable.

Warranty and Support

The LELO HUGO 2 comes with a one-year warranty. If something happens to your toy within that window, they will issue a replacement free of charge. LELO also offers a ten-year quality guarantee so that if/when your product breaks, you can get 50% off a new product with them. Not a bad deal!

I reached out to LELO’s customer support via their website to be absolutely certain the LELO HUGO 2 Remote would not work with the app. After three days, I still had no response other than a confirmation email that they received my query. Their customer support could use a bit better response time. Update: They did get back to me on the fourth day though.

Minor Issues I Found During Testing

The orientation of the buttons on the remote feels backward to me based on how the remote most comfortably sits in my hand: buttons at the top. When I held the remote in the presumably intended manner, I hit a different button than I intended to on several occasions. When you’re in the moment, having to struggle to find the button on the remote can be a frustrating distraction.

Alternatives to the LELO HUGO 2

LELO HUGO

LELO made some changes between the original LELO HUGO and LELO HUGO 2. First, they added a version where you can buy the remote optionally. Next, in the sequel, they increased the motor power by 20%, according to the website. LELO also changed the design of the shape from the first generation.

LELO Loki Wave 1

The original LELO Loki Wave is like a rabbit vibe but made specifically for people with prostates. The internal arm uses wave motion technology, so the stimulation feels a bit like fingering; the external arm vibrates. The medium size isn’t ideal for a first toy, but it’s perfect for anyone who wants to upgrade to an intermediate size. It’s unique, and my partner called it his favorite prostate toy. If you favor the feeling of fingering, Loki Wave is the best choice for you.

Lelo LOKI Wave

You can wave hello to prostate pleasure for $189.

If you prefer this alternative rather than the Hugo 2, please read our Lelo LOKI Wave review first.

LELO Loki Wave 2

The sequel to the original LELO Loki Wave has a lot in common with its predecessor: they have roughly the same design, size, and sound level. The Wave 2 has two extra settings, including a higher highest setting and a faster overall come-hither setting. The external arm is more flexible, so it may be more comfortable for some, but it’s not as good for hands-free play as the original Loki Wave. However, it’s still an excellent choice for those who want a high-end fingering-adjacent experience.

Lelo Loki Wave 2

The Loki Wave 2 can be yours for $240.

Lovense Edge 2

The Lovense Edge 2 shares a similar shape to the LELO HUGO 2, but it provides an entirely different experience. Lovense offers the best app on the market, it’s the most powerful vibrator, and the shape is adjustable. It sticks in the position you put it in, making it a bit more adaptable. If you have a long-distance partner or the need for vibrations that travel deep into your belly, this is the prostate massager for you.
