The Beginner is perfect for plus-size people thanks to the extra-long straps, and the additional O-rings are helpful when you or your partner are ready for bigger dildos. Overall, I think this is the ideal kit for pegging newbies.
The only people who should buy a different kit are those who want more sizes included in the kit, in which case they should try the Lovehoney Advanced. The straps also can rub and chafe, so people with sensitive skin may want to consider a strapless strap-on, like the Lovehoney Desire or underwear-style strap-ons. Lastly, people with penises may prefer a model with a designated area for their penis for a higher comfort level.
Who Should Try It? If I had a friend who wanted to try pegging for the first time, I would recommend this kit. It’s the perfect size and price for beginners, and the quality is excellent. If you know you like pegging and like to use a lot of differently-sized dildos, this is also a great kit since it’s so versatile. It’s excellent for plus-size people, too, even if they aren’t beginners, thanks to the long straps.
Who Can Skip It? Anyone who has been pegged before and likes bigger sizes (especially girth) won’t get much use out of this smaller dildo. The Beginner’s Unisex Strap-On is a harness kit with a small silicone dildo and an adjustable harness that will fit many body sizes. It also includes two larger sizes of O-rings for when you or your partner are ready to level up the dildo size. The back of the harness has a small pocket for a bullet vibe (which is not included), so the harness-wearer will also feel pleasure. The harness is machine washable, and the dildo is waterproof, so it’s easy to clean, easy to use, and easy to get started pegging.
First Impressions and Features
Unboxing
The Lovehoney packaging is minimal but functional. It looks like something you might pick up at the drugstore, and I appreciate the lack of lurid marketing. It also says “quench your thrust” on the front, and I love sex toy companies that use wordplay.
After I unboxed it, I found the silicone dildo and strap-on harness kit inside (image above). There wasn’t a little sample of lube or a storage bag, which were the only two things missing. But those little touches add cost, and this toy is firmly in the budget category without those small luxuries.

How To Use Lovehoney Beginner’s Unisex Strap-On?
After you wash the dildo and the harness:

- Then, loosen the adjustable straps until they fit comfortably around your waist and thighs.
- Step into the harness and alter the straps as necessary.
- Next, lube up your partner and the dildo and begin pegging.

Then, if you want to use a different dildo, choose one with a flared base; otherwise, it won’t stay in place. The O-rings are 1.25”, 1.5”, and 2” in diameter, so you may want to measure to get a dildo close to that size for a snug fit and easy aim. You can use a slightly smaller dildo, but it will wobble and be tougher to aim precisely.

My Personal Experience
I had just reviewed the Lovehoney Advanced Unisex Strap-On, so I was curious how this version would stand up. To my surprise, we liked this one even better.
The size was better for my partner, who prefers small toys. And I liked that the pocket for the bullet vibe was thinner, making the vibrations easier for me to feel.
Often, a company will market a product as meant for beginners, but it isn’t truly for beginners. Perhaps the price is sky high, it has several buttons with a complicated interface that’s difficult to learn, or it’s loud and difficult to turn off. Companies should be extra careful with the products they market to beginners because one bad experience could turn them off the whole industry. Many do not take this additional care.
However, I was pleasantly surprised that the Lovehoney Beginner Strap-on was built for beginners from start to finish. The price of admission is under $50, which is essential for people who don’t know if they like pegging or penetrating yet. The dildo is small enough that it’s barely bigger than two of my fingers, which is an excellent entry size for pegging.
The harness is easy to adjust and simple to wear. Swapping out the O-rings is an uncomplicated process; you unsnap the straps, slip in your O-ring with the dildo of your choice, and re-snap them. It’s one of the most beginner-friendly toys I’ve used so far.
The O-rings were sized correctly for use with some of our other favorite dildos. And better yet, the pocket for the bullet vibe fits one of my faves, the Jimmyjane Mini Chroma (image above).
Packaging
As you can see in the image below, the packaging is minimal, but that’s what helps keep the price so low. However, it contains nearly everything you need: the adjustable harness and a 5” dildo.
If you want to use a different-sized dildo, you’ll need to order that separately. And, if you’d like to take advantage of the pocket for the bullet vibe inside the back of the harness, you’ll have to purchase that as well. Ensure you have water-based lube on hand, too, since this doesn’t come with a sample.
Design
The design is excellent. It comes in gender-neutral black, and the dildo isn’t phallic, so it will appeal to everyone rather than only those who are attracted to penises. It fits well and looks sleek—what more can you ask for from a budget toy?
Material
This toy’s material feels well-made and sturdy. The dildo is pure silicone, soft and flexible, and perfect for pegging.
The harness is made from PVC, polychloroprene, and nylon. The harness is durable and should last a long time. However, the straps can be slightly uncomfortable during prolonged use.
Build Quality and Dimensions
The quality of the build is excellent. This toy is made by Lovehoney, after all, and it’s evident that the well-known company takes pride in its products. The plastic on the strap adjusters was slightly nicked up even before use, but it never affected the toy’s utility and is not noticeable. In the image below, you can see me comparing the dildo size to a hot dog bun as a reference.
Ease Of Use
This harness kit is easy to use: the most challenging part is unsnapping the snaps to slip in the O-ring and dildo you want to use. It doesn’t come with a user’s manual because there’s no need; everything about this harness set is intuitive.
Versatility
This strap-on kit is incredibly versatile. People of any gender can use it, and people of any gender can be penetrated by it. It is also very size-inclusive, with a wider waistband than many strapon harness kits offer. It will be most comfortable for those with vulvas since there isn’t a dedicated spot to stick your penis as the wearer. But this toy still gets full points for versatility!
Warranty and Support
Lovehoney offers a 60-day warranty to return the item unused, and they will cover shipping. If you’ve used the toy and are unhappy with it, you have 100 days to get a refund. This window should give you enough time to decide if you made the right decision, but it won’t be helpful for things like wear and tear.
Minor Issues I Found During Testing
The sturdy nylon/PVC material used to make the straps is sturdy and fits snugly. However, it can start to rub on your thighs if you peg someone for a while. I solved this by putting on some boxers, and it helped tremendously. You must determine the perfect ratio of snug and easy to aim to get loose and comfortable.
One other minor issue I found is that the beginner’s dildo is so small that it doesn’t quite fit snugly in even the smallest O-ring. It’s so thin that it flops around a little bit, so it can be difficult to aim. You’ll need to use your hands to get started. So, this set will probably disappoint people who are looking for a hands-free experience.

Do you want something bigger, or do you want something small but potent?
