How We Picked the Products

For this article, I started by picking some of the favorite anal toys my team and I have used over the years. I also looked through adult forums to find other popular options that real people were enjoying. We added all of those to our review lineup.

To weed out the lower-quality products, I made sure each toy was made from body-safe, hygienic materials. Safety was a top priority, so every model had to include a flared base to prevent any risk of the toy slipping in too far.

Besides the material and flat base, we used a list of test criteria that we could measure on a scale from 0 to 100. These included the following:

1. Design. A good product must have a design that simplifies insertion and retention during use. They must also have a curved shape and flared base for precise prostate play and to prevent unwanted travel.
2. Settings. The more settings, the better. I prioritized the review samples with more vibration settings. While extra bells and whistles like dual and triple motors weren’t necessary, I did throw in a few models with multiple motors.
3. Stimulations were an essential part of the selection process. While having multiple vibration settings was enough, I also paid attention to anal vibrators with different stimulations. For instance, besides the regular vibrations, the b-Vibe Rimming Plug has rimming action in the neck area that simulates anus licking, making it a unique inclusion.
4. Build Quality. We also made sure every product met high standards for quality. From the materials used to the built-in safety features, everything had to be well-made and reliable.
5. Charging. As you might have already picked from my reviews, I prefer rechargeable sex toys, and anal vibrators are no exception. Besides the power type, I also paid attention to models with an impressive charging-to-output ratio. You don’t want something that takes three hours to charge, only to die in 30 minutes. Do you?
6. Special Features (App-control & long-distance control). Like other vibrating sex toys, anal vibes have bells and whistles that set them apart from the competition. So, for this article, I gave special ‘treatment’ to models with unique features like mobile app control, dual-motor design, and long-distance control.

With our review guidelines in place, my colleagues were ready to begin. I handed out the test samples and gave everyone 14 days to try each product and submit their feedback. During that time, I also tested the vibrators myself to have a personal benchmark for comparison.

During testing, we rated each test criterion on a percentage scale from 0% (Worst) to 100% (Best). We then calculated the overall score using different weighted metrics depending on the importance of the test criteria. Half the total rating comes from Design (25%) and Stimulation (25%). After that come Build Quality  (10%), Price & Value (10%), and Special Features (10%).

Analyzing the results took roughly 54 hours, much of it spent comparing my team’s feedback with my own notes, as well as reviewing customer experiences and additional research from our support team. To validate the final selections, I consulted with Angela Kempf, our sexual health writer, for a second opinion. After one of the most thorough testing processes we’ve ever done, we’re confident these are the best anal vibrators for both men and women.

Minor issues we found during testing:

Unfortunately, Hush 2 is too dependent on the Lovense Remote app. The solo button at the base can be difficult to reach once the toy is inserted, and without the mobile app, the possibilities are significantly limited.

2. b-Vibe Rimming Plug: Rimming Action!

The b-Vibe Rimming Plug is our top pick for a remote-controlled anal toy. During testing, the small wireless remote worked reliably from up to 30 feet away, outperforming the remotes that came with other models.

We especially liked the remote’s layout. As you can see in the image below, it features five clearly labeled buttons, making it easy to power on and cycle through its 7 rotation and vibration patterns, each with 6 intensity levels. While there’s also a control button on the base of the plug itself, the remote made the experience much more convenient and user-friendly.

But wait, there’s more! Unlike the other products on this list, the b-Vibe Rimming Plug has swirling beads around the neck to mimic anus licking. “I thought adding rimming action to regular vibrations made the anal vibrator stand out. It amplifies the sensations in the anal sphincter muscles, ultimately promoting intense anal orgasms“, Tim Larson reported.

Something else that the testers pointed out was the overall small size. They thought Hush 2 is beginner-friendly and an incredible first anal sex toy choice. (You can see me measuring the girth in the image below.)

Minor issues we found during testing:

Unfortunately, the buttons were too easy to push for my liking. And significantly, whenever I had lube on my fingers, I slipped and pressed the power button on the remote several times. Starting from the beginning and cycling through to find the last setting was annoying.

It would have been nice to control the vibrations and rimming action separately. The rumbles tend to overshadow the rimming sensations, especially at the highest settings.

Lastly, the vibrations were more buzzy than rumbly. I don’t know about you, but I prefer the latter since it will travel further down the tissues.

Something else we noted was the well-designed wireless remote control (you can see it in the image above). “Of course, you can use the main control buttons at the base, but I think the remote control offers a better user experience. In total, you have 5 vibration modes and intensity levels to explore and controlling them is easier using the remote,” Sandra Larson commented.

Minor issues we found during testing:

The Hot Octopuss PleX with Flex isn’t the easiest toy to operate without the remote control, which can be a bit limiting. Unfortunately, the remote itself isn’t waterproof, so if you want to use the vibrator in the shower or bath, you’ll need to rely on the onboard buttons, something that can take a bit of getting used to.

Another flaw we noted was the lack of independent control for the treble and bass motors. Having the ability to adjust them separately, along with a waterproof remote, would be valuable improvements in future versions of this product.

4. LELO Loki Wave 2: Best Prostate Stimulation!

The LELO Loki Wave 2 has been a longtime favorite of ours. And for good reasons. You see, unlike regular prostate toys it’s designed to stimulate both the prostate and perineum, offering powerful internal and external sensations at the same time.

The ergonomic design has a rounded body and a tapered tip that gives the user a comfortable, gradual stretch (see image below). During testing, the team reported that the smooth silicone material felt great. On top of that, Loki Wave 2 stayed in place (mostly) without slipping out thanks to the contoured shape and subtle contraction at the base. Great design, LELO!

It has a practical dual motor design. Both the internal shaft AND the external perineum stimulator have a motor, which gives the user deep, rumbly vibrations in multiple erogenous zones. However, we would have appreciated Loki 2 more if you could control each motor independently (Maybe in version 3?) but we still think the overall intensity delivered a more satisfying experience than the other review samples.

As with other LELO toys, the LELO Loki Wave 2 is made from body-safe silicone and ABS plastic. We also noted that the seams are minimal and smooth, which helps prevent dirt or bacteria buildup, making it easier to keep clean and hygienic.

All that aside, the one feature that stood out most was the come-hither motion. What is that you may be asking? Well, it’s an innovative fingering motion that adds a realistic element to the experience (those who have received a real prostate massage know what I am talking about). This technology sets it apart from other prostate massagers. On top of that, it enhances the pleasure in a way that feels both natural and intense. Paired with the perineum vibrations, the entire team thought the overall experience was well-rounded. “I love P-spot orgasms, and this is the best anal vibrator I’ve ever used. Full stop,” says tester Shane Davis. “The fingering motion combined with the perineum stimulation was just great,” Shane added.

The testers also highlighted the 10 vibration functions, which are among the highest for a dual-stimulation male toy. The intensity builds gradually, making it beginner-friendly while still offering enough power to satisfy experienced users. My colleagues also liked the intuitive 5-button interface (shown below) and they thought switching between settings was simple.

Minor issues we found during testing:

One area where the LELO Loki Wave 2 could improve is button accessibility. The controls sit flush against the base, which may be difficult to manage for users with limited mobility or dexterity.

At $189, it’s also on the higher end of the price spectrum. Many users we spoke with felt the cost was a bit steep for their budget. If you’re looking for a more affordable option that still delivers satisfying anal stimulation, the Lovehoney Butt Tingler (mentioned above) is a great place to start.

5. Lovense Edge 2: App Controlled & Strongest!

Lovense Edge 2’s compatibility with the Lovense Remote app makes it our preferred choice for people after a better hands-free experience or those in a long-distance relationship.

Why? Well, the Lovense Remote app has always performed at the top among the mobile applications we’ve reviewed over the years. In this test, it scored an impressive 94% average rating, for example. Besides the unlimited customization, the mobile app has a unique UI and bells and whistles like music sync, sound-activated vibrations, and simplified long-distance control. You can see me demonstrating the Lovense Remote App in the image below and in the Unboxing video.

Besides the mobile application, we strongly feel the designers got it right with Edge 2. The internal and external arms got high ratings from the team because they are slightly curved for precise stimulation. On top of that, the external arm lands on the clitoral hood, focusing the vibrations on the deepest nerve endings.

The 2nd-generation anal vibrator features a facelift to enhance precise stimulation. It packs upgraded Bluetooth capabilities for improved connectivity and a better battery for extended sessions. All of which we thought were solid upgrades and worth buying just for those.

Lovense Edge 2 was also the strongest anal vibrator we tested. The rumbles were intense even at the lowermost setting, making it a great option for those seeking a lot of power.

Something else we noted about Edge 2 was the sensations’ variance. “I noted that maxing out both motors was futile as the vibrations overshadowed each other”, Tim Larson told me. “However, whenever I messed with the settings, cranking different intensity levels on either, I could feel the variance better, picking every change and tweak along the way”, Tim continued.

Lastly, Lovense Edge 2 has an adjustable neck with a knobby joint. While it feels stiff, it’s easy to manipulate once you locate the joint. And once you adjust the angle, it stays in place unlike most anal vibrators we tested.

Minor issues we found during testing:

We believe that Lovense Edge 2 is more suited for our more experienced readers. The vibrations were among the most potent we reviewed, and newbies may find them too intense.

Edge 2 can be loud, especially at high settings. Unless you’re in a nightclub setting, the vibrations will freak everyone around you out.

Want something…beaded? Then you should pay attention to our next list entry: the b-Vibe Cinco. This five-bead anal toy has a gradual design where each bead increases in size from tip to base. After testing, we strongly believe that this model is a good option for beginners and experienced players alike.

What really sets it apart is the three-motor system. The manufacturer positioned them throughout the shaft to ensure the vibrations are spread evenly (other sex toy brands please pay attention!) We are happy to say that this is not just marketing gimmicks but an approach that actually made a difference.

The testers also liked the 15 vibration patterns and 6-speed levels to explore, which they rated as sufficient for the majority of consumers. With an easy-to-use LED remote control (image above), you can easily customize the rumbles to match your sexual preferences.

Besides the stimulating experience with the different-sized beads, we liked the dipped base (circled in the image below). “It rests between my ass cheeks quite well, with the soft silicone hugging the skin for a comfortable experience, even when I use it for extended periods”, Sandra Larson commented.

We also appreciated Cinco’s solid, well-constructed design. The tapered tip adds an extra layer of comfort (especially helpful for those new to anal play), allowing for gradual insertion without discomfort. Minor issues we found during testing:

While I loved the Cinco, some colleagues who needed very intense sensations weren’t as thrilled. Don’t get me wrong. Cinco also turned off unexpectedly during use sometimes. While a single button press on the remote control gets it backfiring, the frequent switching off was a hiccup I’d do without.

Lastly, please note that it’s expensive ($119 – $170), and you might have to look for something else cheaper if it’s your first butt experience or you’re on a budget.

One particular feature that we think is worth pointing out was the impressive rumbly motor, with 7 vibration patterns and 3-speed levels on show. While we’ve used more robust anal sex toys, the Butt Tingler was decent for the price.

Another standout feature of the Butt Tingler is its removable bullet vibrator, which gives you the option to use it as a vibrating or non-vibrating plug depending on your mood. This flexibility adds to its overall value and appeal.

It also features a T-shaped flared base (highlighted in the image below), designed to prevent unwanted movement during use. The flat base not only ensures safety but also makes removal simple and comfortable once you’re finished.

Minor issues we found during testing:

A significant downside was the battery-powered motor. A rechargeable battery is always a plus, and I wasn’t excited knowing I’d have to keep tabs on disposable batteries.

The small size might be great for beginners, but intermediate and experienced anal play fans will find it underwhelming.

Ditto+ is definitely not the largest anal vibrator we reviewed, but the well-measured dimensions made it perfect for different sex toy users. It slips inside the anal opening easily and stays intact throughout partnered sex. The tapered tip simplifies insertion, while the bulbous body and slimline neck enhance retention. Plus, the flared base makes the vibe anal sex safe, so you don’t end up in the ER with a stuck-up toy in your ass.

The testers also pointed out how the designers balanced their act with a sturdy yet malleable and soft design. The all-silicone build feels solid while holding, and even with the flexible body, the sex toy remains steadfast with no indication of breaking apart.

We-Vibe Ditto+ is a 2^nd generation anal vibrator with impressive upgrades from its predecessor. My favorites include the new remote made from velvety silicone material. Unlike the old plastic-made one, it feels cozy in the palm of my hand and is much easier to use with lubed-up hands. In addition, the newer version is much easier to insert, and the powerful vibrations are more impactful.

Moving on, the anal plug has 10+ vibration modes, allowing you to explore a wide range of pleasure settings. The intelligently named patterns vary in intensity and consistency, making picking and remembering a favorite easy. With the patterns starting on the buzzy side and then transforming into rumbly vibrations towards the end, you’ll undoubtedly enjoy the exciting transition.

We also appreciated that We-Vibe Ditto+ is compatible with the We-Vibe app (screenshots above). I’ve used numerous sex toy mobile applications, and the We-Vibe app only comes second to the Lovense Remote app. Besides the few times it disconnected initially, I loved everything about it. The intuitive user interface and endless customization made it an incredible choice for long-distance relationships.

The versatility was another standout feature. Ditto+ doubles as a clitoral vibrator during foreplay and masturbation. With the tapered tip and multiple vibration patterns, you can enjoy targeted stimulation all over the body.

While the We-Vibe Ditto isn’t so much of a public play vibrator, I tried it, and it’s fair to say the versatility badge is well-deserved. The decibels ranged between 35 and 60 the last time I used it. So, while you won’t want to use it during a group yoga class, you can take Ditto+ to a popular restaurant during peak hours.

Minor issues we found during testing:

We-Vibe Ditto+ is a little expensive for a budget-seeker. The vibrating plug costs $129, a steep price for most sex toy users.

In addition, the remote control is only splashproof, not waterproof. And while the built-in button still gives you 80% satisfaction, a waterproof remote control would’ve been excellent for aquatic play fans.

Booty Blaster is our preferred choice for thrusting action fans. I also loved the tapered tip that simplified insertion and the suction cup base that promoted a hands-free experience.
